Mrs. McKermitt's Second Grade/Room 31

Welcome to Room 31!  Second grade is such an exciting grade to teach.  The chidren are anxious to make their First Holy Communion and they are becoming much more independent.  I look forward to a new year with new friends and can't wait to get back into a classroom routine.

Thursday's Homework and Reminders (5-16-24)

Spelling - Backpack Page 64 and study for tomorrow’s test. Backpack Page 65 will be coming home tomorrow to study for our last Spelling test on Thursday, 5/23. There is no school for students Friday, 5/24.


Math - Flashcards and pages 163+164.


Religion - The Religion books came home yesterday for the last test, Chapter 9. Take the pretest at blestarewe.com and you will be asked to write one way you can take care of God’s creation.  The test will be on Wednesday, May 22nd.


*Wed. 5/22 -  Preschool-2nd Grade Music Concert @ 9:15. Each 2nd grade class will be performing one song. 


*Thurs. 5/23 - Mothers’ Club Hot Lunch - McDonalds and Spirit Wear


*Fri. 5/24 - No school for students


*Mon. 5/27 - No School


*Thurs. 5/30 - Spirit Wear


*Fri. 5/31 - Last day for A.R. and it’s a Spirit Wear day (Last day of May)



Room 31 created Persuasive Speeches about The Best Snack.  The children will be voting on Friday to see which one wins.  The winning snack will be a special treat on Monday.  If you’d like to check out their presentations, here is the link: The Best Snack



Room 31 will be conducting a STEM project soon.  We are in search of any items that might help protect an egg from a fall. Please send them in next week.  I hope to begin this project on Tuesday, May 28th.  Some possible items might be:
  • bubble wrap
  • small cardboard boxes
  • egg cartons
  • pipe cleaners
  • popsicle sticks
  • Tissue
  • Rubberbands
  • cut up pool noodles
  • cups 
  • Sponges
  • Tubes (toilet paper or paper towel)
  • jewel bags
  • plastic Easter eggs
  • yarn
  • String
  • Tape
  • Cloth
  • sandwich bags
  • Foam
  • twist ties
  • Cotton
  • Or anything else that you can come up with that might help. 

 


Please don’t have them work on this at home.  They will be working in the classroom and collaborating with their classmates.

Reading -  Reread Backpack Page 58 aloud a few times for fluency. Study for the Spelling Test on
Friday.


Math - Flashcards and study the review page coming home. The Topic 10 test will be on Friday.


Religion - The Chapter 8 test is tomorrow. Please bring the book back tomorrow. Study the Chapter Review, Faith Words, highlighted parts, and take the pretest at www.blestarewe.com. You will be asked to write two ways that you can show you are sorry for sin.


*Tomorrow - We will be going to May Crowning in the afternoon.

The 2nd graders did such a fabulous job at Communion! I am so proud of them all. It was such a beautiful day!

Spelling - Backpack Page 52.

Math - Flashcards and pages 145+146. The Home-School connection letter for Topic 10, Add Within 1,000 Using Models and Strategies, is coming home. There are no Word Vocabulary Cards for this topic.

iReady - We are taking a break from iReady until the final diagnostic test is completed, date to be determined.

*Communion Books are coming home today. Please keep these at home.

*AR points/average will be going home tomorrow. AR for the 3rd trimester ends Friday, May 31st.

*Tomorrow - Mothers’ Club Hot Lunch - Cesar’s and Pop Top/Out of Uniform day for Room 31. If you paid for the Out of Uniform for the Mother's Club Hot Lunch, you can come out of uniform. (I didn't realize it was an out of uniform day.) If you didn't pay for it, you can come in Spirit Wear for our Pop Top Day.

*Friday - No school for students

*Saturday - Communion Day!! I am looking forward to seeing all the kids dressed up!! They worked very hard for their big day. Please meet across the street in the Gym at 10:50.
