Dear Families,

First Reconciliation is next week,  Monday, February 5th at 6:30pm. Church doors will open at 6:15pm.

I know your children are nervous and excited.

Here are some reminders:

  1. Please complete your candle holder project and write their name on the bottom of it. Bring the candle holder with the candle to the church. When you arrive, find your child's Reconciliation certificate envelope on the communion rail and put their candle holder on top of the envelope. The envelopes will be in alphabetical order. Be sure they know where theirs is so they can turn on their "light of Christ" on their way back to the pew after their individual confession with the priest. The child should sit on the end of the pew.
  2. When you arrive, find a pew for your family. There are no reserved pews or assigned seating. Please keep the first 5 pews open (reserved signs) in each section so that the confessions are private with the priests.
  3. We will pray the Act of Contrition as a whole group and it is printed in the program.
  4. During the confessions, please keep quiet the entire time. When your child returns to the pew after confession, they should kneel down and pray.
  5. Children should dress in church clothes. Suits and dresses are not necessary but nice pants, collared shirts, sweaters and dress shoes are appropriate.
  6. There is not a formal reception after Reconciliation. However, it is tradition for families to head over to Oberweis Ice Cream in Park Ridge after church. This is a special day and the kids enjoy celebrating with their friends, families and ice cream. Feel free to meet up at Oberweis (101 S NW Hwy, Park Ridge, IL 60068) after church on Monday. I notified the restaurant and they will be staffed and prepared to serve a large group.

I'm really looking forward to next week.

Let me know if I can do anything for you.

Blessings,

Mary Petrash
