Daily Blog
Hello Parents of Room 29! I'm so excited to meet your child on Wednesday, August 21st! We are going to have a fantastic year!
I will send a newsletter 1-2 times per week to note important events and quizzes/tests, and also send pictures of all the fun things we do in class. Please feel free to email me at [email protected] if you have any additional questions/concerns. I'm here to help!
A few things to note:
- Dismissal is at 3:05 PM at Door #1 (office door), except for the FIRST Thursday of the month when dismissal is at 2:00 PM at Door #1.
- Third Grade is the first year where students use assignment notebooks to write down their homework (Yay!). Please send $6 with your child to purchase an assignment notebook.
- Room 29 has P.E. on Monday and Tuesday. Students should wear gym clothes to school on these days.
See you Wednesday! We will meet in the parking lot!
Hello Room 29 families! This short week has been very exciting. We have spent time getting to know one another, learning expectations and rules and making new friends. The kiddos even volunteered to present their written work a couple times. I love presentations!
Next week we will begin getting more into a routine with passing out textbooks, doing classwork and going to our specials.
That being said, I sent home our specials schedule, yesterday. Just as a reminder we have P.E Monday and Tuesday.
REMINDERS:
- If you have not done so already, please send in $6.00 for assignment notebooks. This is necessary for writing down homework, upcoming tests/quizzes and due dates.
- Students need headphones
- Students need a smock or old, oversized t-shirt for Art class.
Have a great weekend!

Hello!
Today I sent home our Reading Log sheet. You will find this in your child's Green Take Home Folder. Students will get weekly Reading Logs every Monday. This is worth 5 participation points. Students must read 4 days out of the week (4 days out of 7) for a minimum of 30 minutes. For example: Monday 30 minutes, Wednesday 30 minutes, Thursday 30 minutes, Saturday 30 minutes. Reading Logs are due the following Monday (or Tuesday if we have a day off). One point will be taken off each day it is late. One point will be taken off if a reading day is missed.
Please contact me with any questions.
I'd like to explain this year's Spelling curriculum. Instead of the Superkids curriculum your child had in the past years, 3rd graders now have Spelling books (Zaner-Bloser Spelling Connections). For each unit your child will be given a pretest on Monday, and that pretest will determine whether he/she keeps an original word list (group/list 1) or moves on to a more challenging list (group/list 2) to study for the week. Spelling tests will always be given on Friday.
Today your child is bringing home his/her pretest. You will see my corrections and a word list stapled to the pretest.
Please keep this list to study from all week.
- If a child has more than two misspelled words, they will keep the original list to study and complete homework for (group/list 1).
- If a child has two or less misspelled words, they will move on to a new list to study and complete homework for (group/list 2). This list will have a few words from group/list 1 mixed in.
- Both groups will have the same type of homework and activities, just slightly different words.
- Both groups will take their tests separately on Friday.
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions and thanks so much for your support!

Hello. I hope everyone had a wonderful, long weekend. I heard some stories this morning!
This week homework begins. Students went home with a Math packet and a Spelling packet. Both packets are due Friday, September 6. This is what the homework will typically look like in my classroom. I also want to mention that homework is NOT graded but checked for understanding. Homework will go back home if there are many errors. If this happens, parent will need to sign the homework, showing corrections were made and parent has checked the work.
Homework is not meant to be stressful. It just reinforces what we are learning in class throughout the week and provides extra practice.
Additionally, we took our Unit 2 Spelling pretest today. Attached to the pretest is the list of words your child will need to study this week in order to be ready for the test on Friday, Sept. 6.
Reminder, 0-2 misspelled words on pretest, child moves to Challenging list. Three or more misspelled words on the pretest, child remains on original list. This can change weekly.
Reading Log- new log went home today. This is due Monday, September 9th.
I think this covers everything. If you have any questions please email me.

Hello families. Another week in the books! WOOT! WOOT!
Grades are beginning to get entered in PowerSchool. Information went home today with instructions of how to set up your family account. Please look for it in your child's green folder. If you need any help please let me know.
Reading- logs are due Monday, September 9th
i-Ready Assessment- our class will take both assessments next week. Math i-Ready will be Tuesday, September 10th and Reading i-Ready will be Thursday, September 12th. We practiced logging into i-Ready today so we are all set!
A couple other mentions
This week we began our behavior chart. Students are asked to "clip up" or "clip down" based on their behavior, if they are listening, following instruction, rules and expectations. Students may clip up or down throughout the day, understandably. My hope is that they all end on a positive note, with a fresh start the next day.
On Monday, we will begin using Blurt Cubes. Students knew this was coming and oddly have been looking forward to it. Every student will have 5 cubes on their desk. If they blurt out without raising their hand, if they are talking or giggling during instruction with a classmate, I take a cube away. If they have at least one cube (or more hopefully) remaining by Friday during our last hour of class, students will partake in some free choice time. If a student(s) does not have any blurting cubes remining at that time, they will be given some type of work to do at their desk.
As always please contact me with any questions or concerns.
Have a great weekend.

Hello. I hope everyone had a great week and an even better weekend to come. Let me catch you up on all the things we have been doing in class.
We now have blurting cubes as another classroom behavior management system. I am happy to announce the entire class had some free choice time at the end of the day today. Additionally, we use the "clip up or clip down" system and I am proud to say that all the kiddos clipped up throughout the week. Another system we have is the Marble Reward Jar. This is a whole class system and every 30 marbles earned outside of the classroom, the kids enjoy some type of reward they vote for, themselves. The class has earned 16 marbles already! We are definitely starting strong in Room 29!
Let's look into the subject areas.
Math- we ended our array lesson by creating an Array City. I hung these up in the hallway and will send them home next week. Monday we begin Division. This will be very short lived so no worries. We will use some manipulatives to help us understand our math pages. I would like to mention that for the most part, Math moves quick. We can get through 2 topics/lessons a week so although you may see one topic come home as homework, we are working on the other one in the classroom.
Spelling- we complete a unit a week. Monday we start Unit 4
Grammar- we ended statements and questions, Monday we begin Command statements
Social Studies- we ended our What Are Communities chapter, Monday we begin Types of Communities (I think)
Reading- we will always have three types of texts to read, per unit. Depending on the unit, we break apart and dive deep into at least two of the stories. Students worked hard this week on citing text evidence and picturing what the author is telling us, the reader.
AR- this trimester students need 8 points. They receive two grades on their report card. One is how many points they earned by the end of the trimester and the other grade is their comprehension percentage. This means that even though they reached or went above the 8 points, their comprehension of the book needs to be well understood in order to answer the questions correctly.
As always, please contact me with any questions, concerns or comments.
Have a great weekend Room 29 fam!

Hello Room 29 families! I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend.
Students took their Reading Log and Spelling Packets home today.
Our Math packet will be sent home tomorrow since we took our Topic 1 Assessment today.
IMPORTANT!! We are beginning to practice our multiplication facts. The first set will be sent home tomorrow with a letter explaining how it works. If you have any questions please reach out to me. I'm always happy to help!
The first trimester is coming to an end very soon. Please remember students need 8 AR points and hopefully trying for a 90% for comprehension. Points and comprehension percentage will be on your child's report card. I will be sending AR reports home again. I hope your child showed you their report from last week.
I will also be sending you an email if your child is receiving a D in any subject. I am hoping you have been checking PowerSchool.
School Announcement: Thursday, October 3, 2024: Early Dismissal @ 2:00
