I am very excited to begin a new school year with your child!  I hope you all had a relaxing and wonderful summer!  If your child attends Extended Care afterschool, please let me know the days. Mondays Homework

Reading - Reread Backpack Page 11 aloud several times. Continue to study the words that went home Friday for the test on Thursday. There is no school for students Friday.


Math - The first sheet of Flashcards are coming home today. These will be coming home on Mondays. Please cut these carefully, place in a baggie, and practice daily. After practicing, please sign/date the signature sheet. I told the students it might be helpful to tape the signature sheet on the inside of the green folder.


We are reviewing for the Topic 1 Math test that will be this Thursday. Please review the pages going home this week and the vocabulary cards that went home when the topic began. 


iReady - Please complete 15 minutes of Reading and 15 minutes of Math by Sunday evening.


Religion - We are talking about Baptism in Chapter 2. It might be nice to have a conversation about your child’s Baptism.


Wednesday - Picture Day. Please bring in your envelope by Wednesday.


*Book orders are due by 9/27 if you’d like to order.


*We are remembering and praying for Grandparents who have passed away. Coming home is a half sheet of construction paper(and an explanation letter) if you would like to attach a picture or draw a picture of a deceased grandparent. Please write the name on the paper also. If more paper is needed, please have your child ask for more.  Please return these by next Monday, 9/25.


*Grandparents/Grandfriends Day - Please join us for St. Juliana's Grandparents/Grandfriends Day on Wednesday, September 27th from 12:30 PM - 3:00 PM. See the paper invitation for a detailed schedule. Please RSVP by filling out this form for EACH student in your household. We are excited to welcome our GRAND family and friends to SJS!

No homework tonight except to continue to study for tomorrow’s Spelling test! Backpack Page 10 will be going home tomorrow with next week’s words for the test, Thursday 9/21. There is no school for students, Fri. 9/22 due to a PD day for teachers.

Religion - Study for the Chapter 1 test that will be on Wednesday.  Please reread the Chapter, focusing on the highlighted parts, the green faith words boxes, and the Chapter Review.  Tests consist of multiple choice questions, matching, fill in the blank, and a short answer question. Chapter one’s short answer question is, What is one way you can show that you are a child of God? Please return the book on Wednesday.

*From Athletics: Junior Trojans basketball starts Monday September 18th from 3-4 in the gym.  1st and 2nd Grade will be on Mondays and 3rd and 4th graders will be on Thursdays. *School Picture forms are coming home. Picture day is Wednesday, 9/20.

*Scholastic Book Orders are coming home. There is a link on the attached paper or you can order with the QR code. Everything is done online this year. If you’d like to order, the due date is Wednesday, 9/27.


*Back to School night is this Thursday at 6:00. Information about 2nd Grade is coming home along with iReady and Renaissance Home Connect Accelerated Reading (AR) information and passwords. Please keep this in a safe place. Read over the information and come with any questions on Thursday evening. iReady practice at home will start when all students are done with the diagnostic testing.

Reading - Backpack Page 2. Continue to study the Spelling words that went home on Friday for the test. Please keep the Backpack Pages at home.


Math - Pages 7+8. Keep the addition chart on page 18 handy to use to solve the equations.

Spelling - Complete the Backpack Page and study for tomorrow’s practice test. You keep the Backpack Pages at home. Since we are off on Monday, Backpack Page 1 will be going home tomorrow to start studying for next Friday’s, 9/8, test. 


Math - Pages 5+6.

Here is a link to a document which will give math support at home.  You can scan your child's green math workbook page and it will bring up the video we watched in class. Look for the “blue eye” icon on the top left hand corner of the Visual Learning Bridge page. It works best with a tablet/iPad in order to use the interactive features.

ALSO....you can view another video, which explains the lesson further, by using the same code and scanning the front page of your child's black and white homework page (called "Additional Practice"). This page will show a video icon in the top right hand corner of the page. I don't think this video is an interactive page, so you can just use your phone to scan and watch the homework video.

Monday's Homework

Spelling -  There is a Backpack Page coming home today and these pages will be coming home daily. Starting next week, the pages will start with Page 1. Backpack Pages stay at home for you to practice and review for Spelling tests. There will be Spelling tests every Friday (if no school Friday, they will be on Thursday). Tests will consist of 12 words and 3 sentences. This Friday’s Spelling test (9-1) will be a Practice Test and will not be counted as a grade. 



Math - We began Topic 1, Fluently Add and Subtract Within 10. The Vocabulary Cards are to be cut up at home and practiced throughout the topic. There is an informational letter coming home discussing Topic 1.

*The Superkids Beginning of the Year test is coming home. Please review, sign, and return tomorrow. All tests are to be returned, except for the Spelling tests.

Spelling - Backpack Page 30 and study for tomorrow’s test.  Backpack Page 31 will be going home tomorrow to start studying for next Friday’s 3/17 test. There is no school this Monday.


Math - Flashcards and review the pages coming home. We will review next week for Topic 6’s, Fluently Subtract Within 100, test next Friday, 3/17. 


Tomorrow - Report Cards go home. Keep the report card and AR printout.  Sign/return the envelope on Tuesday.

*Communion Acceptance Mass 3/19 @ 9:30. You can sit anywhere. Parents/students will be called up to the altar to receive a blessing.

Communion - The Chapter 2 project is coming home. Write, We Pray With Our Community, at the top and draw a map of your community. Please be sure to include your house, the church, and the school. Look at the example and include what else you would like. Put your name at the bottom right. This is due by next Wednesday, March 8th.


*Friday - Pajamas/Favorite Book, last day for 6 or more AR points, and book orders due if you’d like to order.

Thursday's Homework

Spelling - Backpack Pages 4 and 5 (Snack Attack Recipe) and study for tomorrow’s test.


Math - Flashcards and pages 67+68. When timed-tests go home, please correct/sign/return if 84% or lower. You will get them back. 


Religion - The book will be coming home to start studying for the Chapter 8 test that will be on Wednesday, Feb. 1st. You will be asked to write two ways you can show you are sorry for sin.


*Tomorrow is Mothers’ Club Hot Lunch (McDonalds) and we are going to preview the book fair.


*If you are able to come to Open House, wear your uniform and come see me for an Out of Uniform pass!

*Scholastic book fair wish lists are coming home tomorrow.  We will shop as a class next week Tuesday 1/31/23.  You can also shop as a family Sunday, 1/29/23 after mass or feel free to stop by at pickup.  Books can be purchased via eWallet, cash, Apply Pay or check made out to St. Juliana.  Don’t forget to include 10% TAX!  Encourage your children to buy at least one book before trinkets.  The volunteers will also try their best to assist!

Monday's Homework

Spelling - Backpack Page 1 (We are starting the 2nd half of the Superkids program).


Math - Flashcards. We are starting Topic 5 (Subtract within 100 Using Strategies). A School-Home Connection letter is coming home today. 


*We will be starting Cursive this week.


*The first timed-tests are coming home today. If you received an 84% or below, please correct/finish up the problems, sign, and return tomorrow. This will be the routine when these tests come home. The range of these tests vary. The goal is to receive one percentage point higher than the previous test. You can keep the tests when you receive above 84%. We will alternate weekly between addition and subtraction tests. 


*The Act of Contrition prayer is coming home along with what to say to the priest for Reconciliation (Bless me Father for I have sinned…) Please practice both of these for 2/13. Keep these handy at home!


*Please return the movie permission slip/money by Thursday.


*Friday - Mothers’ Club Hot Lunch and we will be previewing the Book Fair.

Just a reminder that this Wednesday, January 25 at 6:30pm in the St. Juliana Church, there is a Reconciliation and First Communion Parent meeting. Parents will receive a form and information about both sacraments and the materials for two at-home projects. Please attend! We'll see you there.
