Our New Athletic Director

We are pleased to welcome Mr. Pat Aylward to the St. Juliana School staff as the Athletic Director for the 2018-2019 school year! 

Responsibilities

  • Work with the pastor, principal, and Athletic Board to manage and promote a comprehensive, inclusive athletic program for St. Juliana School students focused on growth and development of the whole child
  • Identify, train, and supervise volunteer coaches to ensure all school and Archdiocesan policies are followed
  • Communicate frequently and effectively with coaches, parents, students, school administration, and pastor regarding athletic events and offerings
  • Manage game, practice, and gym facility schedules
  • Purchase and maintain uniforms and equipment
  • Attend league meetings as SJS representative
  • Work with Athletic Board Treasurer to collect student fees and ensure all league fees are paid and properly recorded
  • Communicate regularly with classroom teachers to ensure all student-athletes are meeting academic and behavioral standards
  • Serve as a liaison between parents and coaches as needed, ensuring that concerns are heard and addressed in an appropriate manner
  • Arrange for proper volunteer support for all home athletic events, including concessions and running the scoreboard

 

St Juliana Baseball

  • Extracurricular sports are operated by the St. Juliana School Athletic Association and managed by athletic director, Fred LaCerra. Mr. LaCerra is retiring from Saint Juliana at the end of the 2017-2018 school year after more than 40 years of dedicated service.

    St. Juliana School belongs to the Northwest Catholic Conference (NWCC) and abides by league rules regarding player participation, which require that student-athletes be currently enrolled in good standing at St. Juliana School. Coaches are parent and parishioner volunteers, and all coaches are in full compliance with guidelines set forth by the Office for the Protection of Children and Youth.

    In addition to student participation fees, concession stand revenue and financial support it receives from the school, the Athletic Association operates the Track-a-thon in September of each year as its primary fundraiser.

  • St. Juliana Athletic Association

    The Athletic Association attempts to bring to the students of St. Juliana School a sports-related program in addition to their regular physical education classes.

    The Athletic Association coordinates and supervises school-affiliated and intramural functions such as: basketball, volleyball, football, softball, cheerleading and floor hockey and publishes information about its activities on its blog. The Athletic Association has open meetings during the school year that will be noted on the events calendar. Interested parties are encouraged to read the current Athletics Handbook in preparation for attending a meeting.

  • NWCC League Sports

    Football

    Open to all boys in fifth through eighth grade. Registration takes place at the end of the school year for the upcoming fall season. Practices begin in early August and are held at Brooks Park, weather permitting; indoor practices are in the Ahearn Activity Center. Home games are played at Brooks Park and Notre Dame College Prep in Niles. The season runs through late October/early November, including post-season games.

    Cheerleading

    Open to girls in grades five through eight; registration opens in late August. Practices are held at school in the gym or outdoors, as weather permits. Cheerleaders cheer at all football games, home and away. Cheerleading coaches are faculty members.

    Basketball

    Open to students in fifth through eighth grade. Girls' tryouts and registration take place in August at the start of the school year. Season runs through early November. Boys' tryouts and registration take place in late October/early November and the season runs to mid-February, including post-season championships games. Teams may also be entered in tournaments sponsored by local Catholic high schools.

  • Volleyball

    Open to students in grades six through eight. Tryouts and registration for both boys' (one team) and girls' teams (6th, 7th and 8th) begin in winter and the season runs from January through March, including post-season games.

    The girls' teams may also participate in tournaments sponsored by area Catholic high schools.

    Baseball

    Tryouts and registration takes place in early spring and the season runs through May. Practices and home games are played at Brooks Park.

    Softball

    Open to all seventh and eight grade girls and boys not currently playing baseball. Registration opens in early spring and the season runs through May. Practices and home games played at Brooks Park.
