Enjoy spring break!
Basic Math Skills
As you may know, the Archdiocese of Chicago has implemented the following goal for all Catholic Grade Schools: All 7th grade students should attain a score of 90% or better on the Terra Nova Math Test. To prepare our students to attain this goal we have begun drilling all St. Juliana students from grades 1st through 6th. Basic math skills are a key indicator of a student’s math success, and we are using this data to identify students who might need extra practice on these skills.
A green form indicating each student's progress was sent home today.
Star Reading
Also, the results of the third quarter STAR reading tests were given to the 6th graders today. The STAR reading test results show how a student's performance compares with that of other students nationally. The ZPD indicates the reading level from which the student should be selecting books. I strongly encourage the sixth graders to continue to read their A/R books during spring break.
The sixth graders should start saving lids from margarine and cottage cheese containers for an art project they will be working on in May.
Happy Easter!
Have a wonderful, relaxing spring break!
