Happy New Year!

Tuesday will be an out of uniform due to the heat. Students may also bring a water bottle.

8th graders have been pondering a question that I presented to them. What is the best form of government for a nation? We have been reviewing the forms of government through readings, discussion, and group work. The closing assessment will be a written response to our work.

7th graders have been reviewing geographical terms while learning about the 5 Themes of Geography. Students will create a graphic organizer for a city based on research of the city relevant to the 5 themes. This graphic organizer is due Friday. Students have a xerox sample with directions and a rubric. Some work is due Tuesday.

In reading we have defined a list of literary terms which will be used during our readings.We have started a short story.

7th graders have gotten their list of novels to be purchased for this year. The form and check is due by Friday.

The End of May!

Vocab: Books completed on Friday.

7SS: Illinois Constitution Test is on Thursday. Study the notebooks.We will continue on with the Civil War.

6SS: Thank you to Mrs. Smolinski for her presentation on modern Greece. We are entering the Middle Ages.

Week of May 16

I am gald that so many of our 8th grade parents were present for the May Crowning!
I did not have enough orders for the memories video. If you really want one put your photos on a cd and drop it at the Dillon house. She is sending out an email to all. MEMORIES WOW was going to do it for us and probably still will, but I don't know the price.
8SS:The Trading Cards are due on Friday. Be sure to follow the directions and to turn in the rubric with the cards. The WWII packet is due on May 24.

7SS: Students are to be locating images for Tuesday's activity of the North & South posters.

6SS: Monday we will complete our team outlines and have a quiz on 8-3 on Tuesday. The 8-4 quiz will be later in the week.

The Merry Month of May!

Vocab: This week is a review lesson and Lesson 17 will be due Friday.

8SS: Students are finishing the T.R. Project which will be done on Tuesday. Tuesday and Wednesday will use the notebook computers to do an activity on the causes of WWI. Students will also receive a packet which will be due next Monday. Wednesday they will receive the directions for a Trading Card Project on WWI.

7SS: Monday and Tuesday we are working on economic systems. Monday's homework is to read p. 307-309 and do the worksheet. We will then move into 10-2.

6SS: Monday's homework is to read p.265-267 and take notes in a T Chart format. The 8-1 quiz will be Wednesday or Thursday.

Week of April 25

Vocab: Lesson 16 is due Wednesday with tests on Thursday and Friday.

8SS: Monday we viewed a video on the Panama Canal. We also read and discussed the canal.
Students will be working with a partner on a project of T.R.'s Legacy. It will be done in school and completed by next Monday.

7SS: Tuesday will be the 10-3 quiz. Then we will investigate the Industrial Revolution in the United States. Students will learn about economic systems, especially ours.

6SS: Tuesday is the quiz on 5-3. We will begin the Roman Era, starting with its geography.

Week of April 18

I hope everyone involved with the musical has a wonderful experience!

8SS: Students are covering the Spanish-American War Era which includes the Panama Canal and T.R. We will do some geography of the area under study.There will be a quiz on Friday.
Reminder: report cards are due Tuesday and permission slips with a check are due by Friday.

7SS: Students are covering the War of 1812 which includes interesting events like the Star Spangled Banner, Andrew Jackson, and the Munroe Doctrine. A quiz on 9-4 will be on Friday.

6SS: Students are discovering why Alexander the Great received this title! ABC Charts are due on Friday. We will have sometime each day to work on them. A map of the empire will be done this week.The test will be next Tuesday.

Week of April 12

Vocab: Lesson 15 will be completed in class on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. The spelling test will be Monday and the vocab test will be Tuesday.

8SS: 22-1 will be completed on Tuesday, and we will begin 22-2. Tuesday's homework is to read pp.679-681, and create a flow chart on how Hawaii was annexed(not a state added to the Union) to the United States.
Thursday we will complete 22-2. Friday we will begin 22-3.

7SS: We have completed maps of the Lewis and Clark Expedition. We are also reading primary sources,Jefferson's expectations for the expedition and exerpts from Lewis's journal. Thursday will be the quiz on 9-2 and we will begin 9-3,conflicts during Jefferson's term.

6SS: My classes will be doing a support activity on different countries in different biomes which will support Mrs. Oh's activity on biomes.We will complete this activity on Thursday and begin 5-3 on Alexander the Great.

HOLY WEEK

VOcab: Lesson 14 Tests on Monday and Tuesday

8SS:Some students will need to complete their 1 page essay based on chapter 21. Students worked for three days,brainstorming their answers, writing the rough draft, revising,completing a final copy.I am anxious to read their work.
Monday we will begin the U.S. growth as a world power,chapter 22.

7SS:We are studying Jefferson's era.Hopefully, students will see the depth of Jefferson's talents! We will read some of the entries of Lewis and Clark and create a map of the Louisiana Purchase.Colored pencils are required.

6SS: The students are presenting topics from ancient Greece. Work was done in class on Thursday and Friday.

Week of 3/21

Vocab: Lesson 14 this week.Test on Friday

8SS: Tuesday Quiz on 21-4.Wednesday and Thursday will be the chapter 21 test.It will be one essay question which the students will write a rough draft of on Wednesday and edit and revise into a final copy on Thursday. We will discuss the elements of an essay and they will receive a direction sheet and rubric to aid them through the process. Then we will begin chapter 22.

7SS:We will complete 8-3 on Tuesday with the quiz on Wednesday. We will review the chapter with a test on the chapter's vocabulary on Thursday. Then we will begin chapter 9.

6SS: We are reviewing chapter 4. The test will be on Wednesday. Thursday we will begin chapter 5. Students will work in teams on a topic from the chapter and present it to the class next week.
