Meeting Minutes
February 7, 2012
In attendance: Kathleen Barton, Fr. Steve Kanonik, Mark Baranek, Nancy Battaglia, Christopher Bielfeldt, Una Durkan, John Gallagher, Jamie Kumiega, Mike MacGregor, Sue McInerney, Ken Platz, Jeff Rogers, John Ryder, Todd Steffen, and Mary Sugrue.
Meeting called to order at 7:05

3. January Meeting Minutes Approved
4. Principal’s Report
Academics:
• Technology- Review of 2nd quarter computer lab/mobile lab schedule
• Science Fair- Four students to attend the City Wide Science Fair on March 10th at the Museum of Science and Industry.
• Future Cities was offered this school year as an alternative to science fair for 8th grade students. Students enjoyed the experience. Les Torrey, Mrs. Oh, Mrs. Reyes and Ms. Denver coordinated this afterschool program.
• Distinguished Service Award-Mrs. Granata is a recipient for this year’s award; she was nominated by school faculty and staff. She will attend a dinner 3/11/12 to receive her award.
• Explore Test-Reviewed results. This test is a predictor of future ACT scores. St. Juliana’s results were positive as compared to national norm group.
• February 17th: Teacher Institute This year’s topic is Teaching Religion across the Curriculum. Teachers from 11 schools in the council will attend at various sites.
Catholic Identity:
• Confirmation Service Projects-Seventh grade students have been working on their service projects. They are volunteering their time with various organizations. Visiting local nursing homes, preschool/daycare programs, Bingo, food pantries to name a few.
• Lenten Outreach-This year the school and parish will participate in Operation Rice Bowl. Operation Rice Bowl raises funds for world hunger relief.
Parents/Communication:
• Open House was successful. New Family registration has begun. School board members will contact new families to follow up.
Students:
• Assemblies: Sean Stephenson spoke with 5-8th grade students. The topic of this assembly was titled, “What Kind of Person Do You Want to Be?”
• Talent Show
• Fourth and Fifth Grade Service Project-Students are making Valentines for the Troops.
• Mrs. Lidgus attended a 3 day class at the Holocaust Museum. The 8th grade will start a 6 week unit on the Holocaust in Religion class and attend the Holocaust Museum as a culminating activity.
5. Fr. Steve’s Report
• Review of Income and Expense Report December 2011.
• Parish Council will schedule budget meeting in early March.
6. Open House Recap
• Early Open House for Pre-K was well received by prospective families.
• Eighth grade students did a wonderful job escorting new families around the school.
• Smartboard demonstration was a big success.
• School board members to follow up with new families.
• It was very nice to see former graduates volunteering for service hours.
7. Committee Reports
a. Finance
• No Report. Looking forward to meeting with the parish council to plan for upcoming budget at the end of February or early March. Will then present to the School Board regarding outlook for next year’s tuition.
b. Fundraising
• TRIP has been successful during Coffee, Tea and Thee. Will revisit advertising in the bulletin.
c. Technology
• No Report
d. Marketing
• Will begin to plan BTB pre-party. Tentative date March 24, 2012. Would like to collect donations of wine and cash.
• Will put notice of School Board Elections in the Bulletin. This year there will be six vacant positions to fill for next year’s board. Nominations forms due before April meeting.
e. Operations
• Continuing to work on recycling program. Worked with Mother’s Club to recycle waste from this year’s Bags Tournament Fundraiser.
f. Bylaws/Legislative
• No Report
8. Coffee, Tea, and Thee
• Schedule circulated for February and March TRIP Sales. School Board is responsible for April 1, 2012 Coffee, Tea and Thee. Duties will be determined at March meeting.
9. New Items/Miscellaneous
• Suggestion of a safety reminder for all students.
• The Bully Project Movie recommended for parents and students.
