Tuesday News-Room 10

Homework: Math worksheet.

Don't forget to turn in your January Pizza Hut form. The February form is in the green folder. Book Orders are in the green folder today-they are due next week Tuesday.

We went to the Science Lab today! We had fun doing a blubber experiment. Ask your child how the ice felt on their hand; then how it felt with a layer of blubber.

Mass tomorrow!

Monday News-Room 10

Religion-We are on the chapter for Catholic School's Week. During this week we will appreciate everyone who helps to receive our faith-filled education. Today we thanked our parents for all they do for us! The pages will come home on Thursday.

Language Arts-We read another chapter story today called "Buster". Please read it with your child for homework tonight. Spelling Test on Thursday!

Math-We will continue to learn ways to add and subtract to 11 and 12.

Science-We will finish up our Arctic Animal Unit with a science experiment in the Science Lab tomorrow.

Wednesday is 100's Day!! We have many activities planned for this day. The children need to wear uniforms because we will go to Mass in the morning.

Thursday is Student Appreciation Day-the boys and girls may come out-of-uniform on this day.

Sunday News-Room 10

It was wonderful to see everyone at Open House today! Don't forget to use your out-of-uniform pass that I gave you tomorrow.(St. Juliana green and white spirit day) This is the only pass that can be used tomorrow.

We are also starting our Scientist of the Week. Each week (usually on Thursday) one student will bring the science bag home with a book called Pop-Bottle Science. All the experiments in this book need an empty 2-liter pop bottle. (So start saving a pop bottle for your turn.) Please pick out an experiment and practice it with your child. Bring all the materials, the science form, pop bottle, and bag to school on your assigned day. There is a note in the science folder explaining all of this, too. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact me. We will do one experiment every week.

Homework: Read the story: "The Spingle Spangle Talent Show". This is a long story so feel free to read the whole story, or just a chapter or two.(Whatever is comfortable for your child)

Wednesday News-Room 10

The readers and gift bearers did a great job at Mass today; I am so proud of you!

In reading we learned about contractions today. The children learned the trick for taking two words and turning into one word with our friend, the apostrophe. Ask your child(the doctor) about the fun activity we did in class today with bandages and our new words. They have extra contraction word cards to practice at home for fun! They do not need to be returned. The spelling contract and word list are in the green folder. The test will be next Thursday, Feb 2. They only need to spell the words in pink.

Homework: Math page 255-56.

Dismissal at 2:00 tomorrow. Don't forget this Sunday is our Expo/Open House.(Mass at noon- Open House from 1-3) All are welcome to visit the school and our classroom. Don't forget to come in complete uniform to receive an out-of-uniform pass to be used on Monday.

Tuesday News-Room 10

Please join us for mass tomorrow; the first grade class planned the Mass. Mass begins at 8:45.

Homework: Read the play called "The Contest". You can also go online to read the stories for this unit. I will activate Unit 10 on Thursday.

We made our polar bear paw prints today-ask your child how many paw prints it took to get to the office!

Please continue to practice the Dolch words. I test the children once a week.

Monday News-Room 10

Religion-We have a review week.

Language Arts-We are finishing Unit 9. We are working with long vowels words, contractions, and adding endings to our words. The spelling test is tomorrow-Please bring the contract to school.

Math-The chapter test is in the green folder. Please sign and return tomorrow. We are beginning a new chapter-addition and subtraction facts to 12.

Science-We will finish our Arctic Animal Unit. We will do a science blubber experiment. We read The Three Snow Bears today and learned about the Eskimos.

Reminder: Please sign and return the report card tomorrow! Don't forget to keep reading-we are trying to read 100 books by next week.

Wednesday News-Room 10



Today we went to the computer lab and worked on a special penguin page for a class book. We also met with our Third Grade Buddies and worked on the Smartboard. We read a snowman story and made a snowman with our friends from third grade.

Homework: Math study guide for test tomorrow. This page does not need to be returned.

Spelling words and contract are in the green folder. The spelling test is next Tuesday.

Reminders: Dismissal at 2 tomorrow! Please have the children dress for the weather in case they go out for recess.

Tuesday News-Room 10

Religion-The family page came home in the green folder. We are talking about the different ways we pray. We also talked about the book of Psalms, and how many of our songs come from these beautiful prayers.

Language Arts-We began Unit 9 today, and learned some more long vowels rules. We learned that the second vowel in the word is usually silent.(Ex. sail, boat, meat) The unit test came home in the folder tonight, please sign and return tomorrow.

Math-We are finishing up the chapter. The review page/study guide will come home for homework tomorrow. The chapter test will be on Thursday.

Science-We are learning about the different winter animals. We are finishing up the penguin, and will begin the polar bear this week. We will visit the Science Fair on Thursday.

Please continue to read books at home. We are trying to reach our goal of a hundred books by 100's day the first week of February. Everyone should have at least one star on the wall. If you need more slips, please let me know.

Don't forget we have Mass tomorrow, please do not use any out-of-uniform passes.

Reminder: Mothers' CLub Hot Lunch. We are "camping" tomorrow-out-of-uniform. The children may bring sleeping bags-blankets and a stuffed animal to school.



Book orders are due tomorrow!



Reminder: The children must wear boots to school when there is snow on the ground!

Monday News-Room 10

Religion-The family page for the new chapter is in the green folder tonight. We are talking about forgiveness, and how Jesus always forgives us, especially if we say we are sorry.

Language Arts-Please read "Golly Helps" in the reader for homework. The spelling test will be on Thursday. The assessment test will be on Friday. We will also be "camping" on Friday-to follow our camping theme in this unit. The children may come of out uniform and bring a sleeping bag or blanket and a stuffed animal to school. Please continue to practice the Dolch words-"Giraffe Book"(this was given to you at conferences). I tested the children last week and told them what Test on work on.

Math-We are learning about greater than and less than this week. We will make a math muncher to help us to remember the greater than symbol-the mouth always gobbles up the bigger number.

Science-We started our winter animal unit. This week we are learning about penguins. We will be measuring penguins and putting our booklet together.

Social Studies-We will also learn about Martin Luther King.

We are also getting ready for hundred's day. In the folder is a note about our class goal of reading 100 books by the first week of February. The letter explains this goal and provides a sheet for you to record the book your child reads. Please cut the slip from the paper every time your child reads a book and sign it. When your child brings the slip to school, he/she will put their name on a star and hang in the hall. I expect each child to read at least 5 books by the beginning of February. They may read any book that is comfortable for them. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Friday News-Room 10

The spelling words and contract are in the green folder today. The spelling test will be on Thursday Jan. 12th.



The highlights magazine forms are in the folder. Please sign Yes or No, and return on Monday. I am able to get needed items for the room, even with a No response.



Please note the following information about yearbook pictures on Monday.





Monday, January 9. 2012, we will be taking pictures for our yearbook of our many and various groups, teams and clubs. Students are to come in our official school uniforms, no spirit or sports wear. Scouts and teams may bring their shirts to put over their uniforms for pictures. Band students, please bring your band instruments for the pictures.

Thursday News-Room 10

Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas break!

The children did a great job getting in the swing of things today. We read a story abour Squirrel's New Year and worked on our New Year's resolutions.

We did candy cane math-we measured different things in our room with candy canes!

I will still accept any December Book-It forms tomorrow.

The children can still bring in any supplies they need next week if you forgot to bring them today.

Homework: Reading worksheet.

Reminder: Gym and library tomorrow.(The children do not have any books to return this week; they did not check any out before break.)
