Wednesday News-Room 10

Tuesday News-Room 10

Homework: Study for the spelling test and return contract tomorrow.

Our Christmas Around the World suitcase is in the green folder. We had a fun time traveling all over to learn about the many different Christmas customs. The supply list is also in the green folder.

Reminder: We dismiss at noon tomorrow. Mass is at 11, dismissal at our regular door. Children must be in uniform.

Monday News-Room 10

Religion-We finished up the chapter focusing on the Eucharist. It is in the green folder. We will be sending home our Advent wreath and Christmas tree countdown tomorrow. The countdown can be finshed up at home if you desire. The children are really enjoying our special Advent book. We will finish reading it on Wednesday. It tells the story of Benjamin Bear following the star and the adventures and friends he makes along the way. There is a special lesson learned on each day.

Language Arts-We will take our spelling test on Wednesday. The reader was sent home for homework tonight.

We read the Polar Express and did a graphic organizer. We also wrote what we would want for the first gift of Christmas. Thanks to all who brought in cookies/dessert for our Polar Express Party. We truly enjoyed all the treats!

Reminder: Tomorrow is our Christmas concert at 12:15 in the gym. Please dress in Christmas clothes. Wednesday we dismiss at noon for the Christmas break. Mass is at 11:00. Dismissal from our regular dismissal door.

We have a few children who still have library books out. Please try to return them before break! The January Book-It calendar is in the green folder. I wanted you to have it for the beginning days of January. Please return the December calendar when we return from break.

I will be sending home a supply list tomorrow. The children need to replenish some of their supplies. We went through their desks and I marked off the supplies they needed. PLease bring the supplies to school in January.

Thursday News-Room 10

Today we made a magic sparkly "e". When you put it at the end of some words, it changes the short vowel to a long one. (Ex. hop-hope) The magic sparkly "e" came home in the green folder, along with some words to practice using this magic trick. These may stay home.

Homework: Long u worksheets. The spelling test for Unit 7 came home in the green folder yesterday. Test next Wednesday. We did not want the children to have to study spelling words over the Christmas break! The Reading Assessment test is in the green folder-Please sign and return tomorrow! Thank You!

Our Christmas concert is next Tuesday afternoon at 12:15. The children may wear Christmas clothes for the concert.

Don't forget we to return your library book tomorrow. The children will not be taking books out this week due to Christmas break.

If you able to bake or bring a batch of cookies for our special Polar Express day, please email me. They do not have to be enough for the entire classroom! Thanks so much!

Tuesday News-Room 10

The family page for Religion is in the green folder tonight.

We did a fun project today with gingerbread. We read stories about the Gingerbread man, the Gingerbread girl and Gingerbread baby. Ask your child which one was his/her favorite? We also graphed about the gingerbread cookie-Which part did you eat first? See the results in your green folder. We also made gingerbreads that are hanging up in our room.

Homework: Long i homework sheets in the green folder.

Monday News-Room 10

Religion-Today we placed a flame on the third candle of Advent. We are learning about a special meal we share called the Eucharist. The chapter will be coming home on Friday.

Language Arts-We are finishing up Unit 6 this week. We will continue to work with identifying long and short vowels.

Math-We will continue to work with place value and take a Quick Check later this week. We played "Scoot" today to practice our place value skills.

Social Studies-We will finish up our "Christmas Around the World" unit.

Homework: Read the poem "When I Am a Princess". Don't forget spelling test tomorrow. Please return the spelling contract.

Reminder: Our Christmas Concert is next Tuesday, December 20th at 12:15 in the gym.

Tuesday News-Room 10

Today we learned about the long vowels. The long vowels say their name, a is a(ape), e is e(eagle), i is i(ice), o is o(open) and u is u(unicorn) or oo(fruit).

Homework: Long a worksheets. On the first sheet cut and paste the pictures that have the long a sound. The second sheet: Circle the symbol that identifies the sound of the a in the picture. For example-bag is short circle the "smiley", cake is long-circle the "stick hat".

Color only the long vowel pictures.

Monday News-Room 10

We put the flame on the second candle on our Advent wreath. We are also reading about Little Bear's adventures on his journey to follow the star. Everyday we read a special prayer to help us prepare our hearts for Jesus. We also colored a shoe to leave out for St. Nick tonight. The parent page is in the green folder for our new chapter which talks about Mary saying Yes to God.

Language Arts-We are starting Unit 6 tomorrow. This unit will introduce the long vowel sounds. We will be listening for the different sounds the vowels make in words.

Math-The quick check is in the folder. Please sign and return tomorrow. We will continue to work with place value this week, along with counting by five's and two's.

Social Studies-We will continue to work on our Christmas Around the World Unit. We learned about Italy, Mexico and Australia. Where we will go next?

We went to the computer lab today to practice IXL math. You should be able to log in at home and work on the first grade math skills. All the children have their user name and password. If you have any problems getting on the site at home, please let me know.

Book orders will be accepted tomorrow morning. I will send in the order after school so we get the books before Christmas break.

Friday News-Room 10

A big thank you to our Art Moms-Mrs. Gallagher and Mrs. McEnaney. The children made a beautiful Nativity Scene that is on display in our hallway.

Don't forget spelling test on Monday.
