What a busy week! We read a story called "What a Pet!". We wrote riddles and painted a pet rock.
We went to the science lab and did an experiment on Sink or Float? Our class prediction that the pumpkin would sink was wrong. Ask your child which pumpkin has the most pumpkin seeds? We also examined some gourds that a farmer gave me!
The children also brought home their Unit 1 and 2 workbook. Please read the letter inside the book as it provides some great practice activities.
We finished our first science report. The bug folder contains our first report, and an activity we did in the computer lab. They did a great job!!
Your child came home today with 2 readers. They are yours to keep. Please take the time to read the stories in this book. They are fantastic stories! This will be great practice for them!
Reminders for Monday: The children may come out-of-uniform. NO COSTUMES! They may bring individually wrapped candy to share with the class. The room mom's are planning a fun party for us in the afternoon.

We had a great time in the Science Lab doing our first experiment. Ask your child what we did! (Hint: Ask them about the big pumpkin? Did it sink or flaot?)
Homework: Read "What a Pet!". Please return the book tomorrow. Math Quick Check needs to be returned-a few tests are still missing.
We went on a Ghostly "I SPy" Walk with our friends from third grade. We looked for the Halloween decorations on our sheet and marked them off with our buddies. We had a great time!
On Thursday we will be out-of-uniform for Red Ribbon Week. The children can wear red-to remember to make good choices.

Religion: The parent letter is in the green folder. We are learning about the Golden Rule: Treat others the way you want to be treated. We are talking about how we take care of others in our classroom and in our families.
Language Arts: Today we read a short story-"What a Pet!" We even made a pet rock! The children will bring their books home tomorrow to read the story to you. I wanted them to focus on their spelling words tonight. Please don't forget to study and to return the spelling contract tomorrow! We will finish up Unit 2 this week and take our unit test.
Math-We are learning about fact families. We will be working on some strategies to help us with this concept.
Science-We are learning about pumpkins this week. We will measure, make a flap book, and do a science experiment with pumpkins.
Please check the green folder tonight. We had a lot of mail going home. Please check for the orange letter from our room moms. This has all the information regarding our Halloween Party next Monday. The Parent-Teacher Conference note with conference times is in the folder. If you cannot make your scheduled time, please let me know.
This week is Red Ribbon Week. We are remembering to make good choices.

Don't forget to study for the spelling test next week. The children should be able to visually recognize the Memory Words in the story tonight when you read it together.

We made a Halloween book today. They children had to read the sentences, and put them in the correct order. Enjoy reading the book together!
Religion-We are discussing the sacrament of Baptism. Please bring in any Baptism pictures you may have of your child during the week. They will be returned the same day. The Family page is in the green folder.
Language Arts-We are starting Unit 2. Please read the story,"What Can You Get with a Nickel?". Please return the reader tomorrow.
Math- We will continue to learn different strategies for subtraction.
Science-We are learning about spiders and bugs.
Reminder: We have art mom's on Wednesday. Please remember to bring in your boxes and nature items.
The new spelling words for Unit 2 are in the green folder. The test in not until Tuesday, October 25th. I have also attached a spelling contract to the word list. Please pick 5 activities from the list to practice the words. You can also make up an activity if you like. Please return the contract on the day of the spelling test. This will be a fun way to practice the spelling words.
Don't forget Art Mom on Wednesday. Please bring in your nature items and shoebox on that day.

I just received an email that the art mom's will not be able to do the lesson this week. Please do NOT send the nature items to school on Friday. They will become moldy by next week. I will let you know the date the items are needed when the art mom's reschedule. Sorry for the inconvenience!
Homework: Please go to the Superkids website and read an interactive book for Unit 1 with your child. It does not matter what book you read from the three choices listed on the webpage.

Religion-We are finishing up the chapter and the pages will come home on Friday.
Language Arts-We are finishing up Unit 1. We will begin Unit 2 on Thursday. New spelling words will come home next week.

Science-We are learning about bats! Ask your child about the food bats eat and how many??

The children need a shoe box for Art class on Friday. They also need to bring in items from nature-sticks, leaves, pinecones, etc. Please do not bring the nature items to school until Friday.

The October book club is coming home today. There is a new math/science club, along with the regular Scholastic book club. You can use the NEW activation code for both forms. The orders are due next week Tuesday.
I have completed the class registration for the Superkids on-line portal. I sent everyone an email from this website to see if it worked. This activation will allow you to have access to our stories for each unit, along with additional interactive stories. This will be a wonderful way for you to practice reading the stories at your convenience.
Don't forget to study for our first spelling test on Friday.

Social Studies-We are talking about fire safety this week. We will be going to Safety Town on Thursday.
We also went to the computer lab today to learn about Christopher Columbus.
