Just a few reminders for the last few days of school.
We will be out-of-uniform (pop tops) on Tuesday 5/31, Thursday 6/2, Friday 6/3, and Monday 6/6. We will be going to Mass on Wednesday 6/1 and on Tuesday 6/7(our last day of school) so the children must be in uniform on those days.
Please empty out the backpacks every night as the children will begin to clear out their desks later in the week.
Friday 6/3, we will have a celebration in the classroom. We will eat lunch together, and the room moms have some special activities planned for us. We will NOT be going to Brooks Park. The weather has been so rainy and unpredictable that we are doing an in-school, student only celebration instead. I hope you can join us for the closing Liturgy on Tuesday morning when the children are dismissed after Mass.
Monday 6/6, will be game day. The children may bring board games to school clearly labelled with their name on the box.

Homework: Vocabulary flashcards for The Story of a Blue Bird are in the green folder. Please practice them for tomorrow. Spelling words and contract are also in the green folder. Test on Friday.
The subtraction math test needs to be signed and returned tomorrow. I will retest any student who scored below an 80% this Friday. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Reminders: Dismissal at 2 tomorrow. Subtraction Math flashcard test on Friday.
Religion: We made flowers for Mary! They look beutiful on the board. The family page for the new chapter is in the green folder.
Phonics: We will continue to work on contractions and endings. Spelling Test on Friday.
Reading: New vocabulary cards are in the green folder. The reading unit test was sent home today-please sign and return tomorrow.
Math: We are working on telling time to the hour and later in the week to the half hour. Please practice at home.
Science: Ask your child which plant grew in our classroom experiment. We put together the experiment booklet and put it in our plant pocket.
Social Studies: Each child picked a state for the report they will do in school. We will work on the reports this week.
Reminders: Math flashcard test on Friday. No out-of-uniform passes can be used on Wednesday or Friday this week. We have the school May crowning on Friday at 2:00.
Also, we will not have a picnic at Brooks Park this year. Instead we will do something special with the children one day during the last week of school. Details will follow.

Homework: Read A Friend for Little Bear, and use your puppets to act out parts of the story. The puppets may stay home, please return the book tomorrow.

In religion we are learning about Mary. We will have a classroom May crowning and each child will receive a rosary.
Phonics-We are finishing up digraphs and contractions. Spelling words and contract are in the green folder. Test on Friday.
Reading-Homework: Vocabulary falshcards for the new story were sent home today.
Math-We are learning about measurement this week. Today we used paper clips to measure the length of the supplies in our desk.
Science-We planted bean seeds today, to see which ones would grow under the correct conditions. Ask your child what a plant needs to grow! We will be recording our observations in our science journal for several days.
Social Studies: We are beginning to learn about the fifty states. The children are eager to read the postcards we received from other first graders from the fifty states. We wonder if we will get one from Alaska and Hawaii???
Reminder: Tomorrow is the last day for Scholastic book orders!

We will be very busy this week.
Religion-We are talking about how we can help the church. We learned two new words-serve and mission. We also learned to sign the words-Christians love and serve others. Ask your child how to sign it.
Phonics-We will continue to work on digraphs and contractions. Spelling words and contract in green folder. Test on Friday.
Reading-We are reading the last story in our book-"The Night Animals". New vocabulary words are in the green folder. Unit Test will be on Friday.
Math-We are beginning a new chapter-family page in folder. We will be adding and subtracting to 20. The children are taught to use the number line on their desk to solve these problems.
Social Studies-We will finish the symbols of the United States.
Science-We will begin our plant unit.
I sent home the last book order forms for the year-May and June. Please return the form with a check by May 10, if you wish to order.
A Few reminders:
Wednesday-We celebrate our Grade Mass at 8:45.
Thursday-Reading Buddies-We will celebrate Cinco de Mayo Day with them. I asked several parents for food donations for this activity(note in green folder), if you are unable to contribute, please let me know. Dismissal at 2:00.
