Religion-We started Chapter 18-We are celebrating Pentecost-the birthday of the Church.  The family page is in the green folder.

Language Arts-We will finish up Unit 8 this week.  Spelling Test Tomorrow!!!

Math-We started time today.  The children practiced telling time to the hour today.  Math page for homework.  Please sign the Check My Progress and return tomorrow.  Rocket Math if needed.

Science-We started our Planet Reports today.  Each child was given a planet that they will research(write 3 facts from books in the classroom) and fill in a report sheet.  We are also going to the computer lab to write and illustrate a fact about our planet.

Reminders:  We are going on our Field Trip on Thursday-all children must be in uniform, please no out-of-uniform passes!

Religion-We started Chapter 17-Jesus' Followers Become the Church today.  Family page is in the green folder.

Language Arts-We started Unit 8-we are learning about the /ou/ and the /ow/ sounds.  The children had fun  looking for words that contained these sounds hidden around room.

Math-We are continuing with our measurement unit.  Today we practiced measuring using non-standard units of measure. The children used "Cinchy" the inchworm to practice this skill.

Science-Today we learned about the order of the planets.  We made up sentences to help us remember the order.

Homework:  Math page.  Rocket math(if needed).

Reminders:  The children must be in uniform tomorrow for the May Crowning and on Wednesday for Mass.  Please feel free to join us for the school May Crowning at 2:00 tomorrow.

Room 10 May Crowning!

We had a very special day in our room today-we crowned our statue of Mary!  We learned about the rosary and then had a special procession to present Mary with the plants we have been growing.  The children are bringing home their rosary and a copy of the Hail Mary to hang up in their room.

We are busy learning about the sun and stars.  We used our science books to learn more about the solar system.  We made a star finder and went outside to check the position of the sun at different times of the day.

Today we learned about the rosary.  Each child received a rosary and we learned about how to pray the rosary.  Tomorrow we will crown Mary in our room.

Please look for a very important note that came home in your child's backpack today. Tomorrow, the school children will be participating in making a video for the 85th Anniversary Gala about the electronic smart boards that are in classrooms and the computer lab. Read the information, and sign the release if you will allow your child to be a part of this production. No child will be allowed to participate if a form is not turned in. Thank you for your attention to this matter!

Homework: Please complete the math workbook page, and the Rocket Math sheet, if needed.  Study for the spelling test!

Religion-May is the month of Mary.  This week we will learn about Mary, the rosary and get our room ready for a May crowning.

Language Arts-We will continue to learn about the 'tricky r" sounds-ar, or and ear. The spelling test will be on Friday. There are no memory words, only "trickers" so ALL of the words will be on the test.

Math-We will begin our next chapter about measurement this week.

Science-We started our Space unit today.  We learned about stars-ask your child what they learned today-do you know what color a star is??  We made a constellation out of our names and a star-maker.

Homework:  Please read the article in our reader called-"Making Stars".  (There is a worksheet in the green folder that explains how to make the star maker.)  Rocket Math sheet if needed.  Please sign the reading and math tests and return to school tomorrow.

Reminders:  Please turn in the field trip form.  Mothers' Club Hot Lunch on Friday.

The children did a great job at Mass today-I was so proud of them!!

Religion-We are completing the review pages in our book this week.  We are also practicing for our Mass on Wednesday.  Feel free to join us on Wednesday at 8:45 as we celebrate Mass together with our faith buddies.  Please wear your yellow shirt to school on Wednesday with your uniform pants/jumpers.

Language Arts-We will take the Assessment test tomorrow.  We will begin Unit 7 later this week.

Math-We are finishing up the chapter this week and take the test on Thursday.

Science-We are learning about plants and flowers.  We are watching the plants in our room to see which ones will grow-stay tuned!!  We also did an experiment today to observe how the nutrients travel through the roots and stem-ask your child about the experiment.

You can wear your yellow shirt with jeans, khakis, or school pants.  Also if you would like to make a donation to support the Misericordia Home for the Disabled they will be visiting the classrooms at lunchtime on Thursday.

We worked hard on our science experiments today.  We planted bean seeds in different growing conditions and will observe which one grows the best.  We also wanted to find out if a seed can grow without soil???

Language Arts-We are learning the sounds of oi and oy this week.  Please read the story and return the book to school tomorrow.

Math-We started double digit subtraction.  We did our first timed "Rocket Math" addition drills today. If your child received a star and met his/her goal then they do not have to complete the math sheet for homework. These sheets will be going home on a regular basis. Please check on your child's progress each day looking at the drill sheets.

Science-We started our plant unit today.  We will be busy doing some planting this week, along with reading our plant books and doing a few experiments.

We celebrated Earth Day today. We went on an Earth Day Scavenger Hunt to look for signs of nature and we talked about the different ways we can take care of the earth.

Don't foget book orders are due this week!
