Viva! Cinco de Mayo!

We celebrated Cinco de Mayo by learning a bit about its history, making sombreros, eating chips and salsa, playing pin the tail on the donkey, and doing comparing/contrasting similarities and differences btw. the US and Mexico flags.
MATH: THE CHAP REVIEW IN MATH IS HOMEWORK. IT IS TO SERVE AS A REVIEW/STUDY GUIDE FOR TOMORROW'S CHAP TEST. IT DOES NOT NEED TO BE RETURNED TO ME.
SPELLING: there is a new word list to practice (s blends); test Friday
Lots and lots of important papers in the folders; please review carefully before throwing anything away.

Can you believe it's the last day of April?!
First grade planned the mass today and all of the participants did very well: readers, gift bearers,and singers.
Tomorrow we are OUT-OF-UNIFORM!
We will also be OUT-OF-UNIFORM on MONDAY, 5/5
Thanks to all that brought in supplies for Cinco de Mayo. If you still need to bring something, please send it tomorrow or Monday.

Please practice money (coin recognition and value) with your child at home.
Spelling: test tomorrow; study
NOTE: please notice when your child is writing-if they are starting the letter/number from the bottom up, correct them. There are very few letters and no numbers that begin the stroke from the bottom up. I've been noticing that many of them do this and I've been trying to change that habit. Help me and correct them at home when you notice. Thanks

Happy Earth Day!

We celebrated Earth Day by deciding what they can do to help the planet and made posters. We also went out all around the school picking up garbage.
Reading: Apple Unit- we are learning about how apples grow, Johnny Appleseed, and writing apple stories/poems/songs.
Science: We are wrapping up our Solar System Unit. They've learned so much about planets!
Math: Please continue to work on money at home (coin name/recognition and value).
Phonics: We're working on blends; study spelling words for test on Friday.
