Norah always does beautiful work in school and she uses lots of color. Well done Norah! One of Norah's favorite toys is the leap-pad or as Norah calls it her ipad! Norah's favorite ice-cream is strawberry, her favorite food, shell mac-n-cheese, and her favorite pizza topping, cheese and mushroom. I'm coming over for dinner Norah!

We finished our winter learning theme by sorting mittens and making a pattern using two different colored mittens. We also listened to the book 'The Mitten' adapted by Jan Brett. The children then sewed their own mitten and put paper copies of all the animals from the story inside the mitten. It was fun to see who recognized the mole, badger, fox, or hedgehog. Today the children completed a piece of work in their journal titled 'Let it snow...' Perfect for the weather we are having! We had two big birthday celebrations this week. Happy 1/2 Birthday Augie! And Happy Birthday Benjamin! Thanks for the yummy treats!

Winter in Room 6!

Room 6 is turning into a winter wonderland with all the snowmen, snowflakes, and snowy scenes we are creating as part of our winter learning theme.

On Monday the children enjoyed rolling paint over animals hiding in the snow. I told the children it was like magic when they peeled the animals off the paper.
nullnullnullnullnullnullnullnullnullnull

This week the children also enjoyed making a glittery snowflake I think squeezing the glue onto the paper was their favorite part.
nullnullnullnullnullnull
Today we created snowflakes by the children gluing different colored shapes onto doilies. The snowflakes are now 'dangling' in mid-air in Room 6.
nullnullnullnullnull

Room 6 had a very special guest today. Mr. Olsen, Ben's dad, visited Room 6. Mr. Olsen was Ben's Mystery Guest. Ben was delighted to see his dad, he got such a lovely surprise. Ben's dad told us Ben likes football, him and his dad have football lunches together! Ben's proudest accomplishments are being able to count to eighty. Wow Ben! And using tools to fix things. On the photo board Ben's dad brought in, there was a great photo of Ben and his dad sanding and painting their front door. I think we could all do with a 'Ben' in our house! There was also a photo of Ben touching a snake! Ben you are so brave!
nullnull

Ben's dad read one of Ben's favorite books, 'Chief Rhino to the Rescue'. The children really enjoyed this book, definitely a book for our reading lists. Ben's favorite toys were two imaginext planes. The children also cut out a snowman. There is a huge improvement in the children's cutting since the beginning of the year.

The children enjoyed sorting mittens. The children had to match the mittens to make pairs. This is an activity we will continue next week. The activity will become more difficult, with more mittens to match, and mittens with complex patterns to sort.

At the painting station the children painted an upper case F and a lower case f. The boys also brought in a number of great items starting with the letter F for Show and Tell today.
