5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th had tests this week. I have entered all the results for the tests on gradeport.

Grades 5, 6, and 7: IXL Measurement 20 minutes by 10/2/11.
Please note some students are not completing their IXL and it is affecting their grades. Grades have been posted in gradeport so please check out your students grades. If you see 0 in the IXL grades then it means your child has not been completing their IXL at home. The class requirement is 20 minutes per week at home.
8th: NONE
5th: See "5th Grade Math Test" below.
6th: Study for the chapter 1 math test. We have reviewed in class and the students know their weak spots. They all have been instructed to complete odd numbered problems in the sections they are having trouble in and then to look in back of the book for the answers.
-page 41 #56, fill out the four squares and a diamond graphic organizer when solving this word problem.
7th: Page 51 #48, use the graphic organizer to solve this problem. IXL tomorrow.
8th: Word problems handed out on Wednesday are due tomorrow.

Today I gave each student a review packet for tomorrow's Chapter 1 test. Following is the recommended method of studying:
1. Review Chapter 1 Notes and Textbook.
2. Close all notes and book, then complete the review packet with NO assistance.
3. After the student has completed the review packet check the answers, the answer key is below.
4. The problems that are incorrect are the areas of weakness for the student. Identify the area that needs to be strengthen and then strengthen it by re-doing homework problems.

5th: Math Words quiz on Wednesday, 9/28/11, date changed per students' request.
-Chapter 1 Test on Friday, September 30. This will be a multiple choice test. The students took a practice test today and I will grade these and return them to the students, so that, they can see what areas they need to practice for the test.

5th: We did not get much done in class today because of picture day. I will not see the 5th graders on Thursday or Friday because of the Track-a-thon schedule.
We added 4 more flash cards to the math words used for operations. We now have a total of 12. There will be a quiz next Tuesday. The students will have to match up the word with the operations. For example, sum = addition.
Homework: Study 12 math words and complete 20 minutes of IXL Measurement by Sunday, 9/25/11.

7th: Memorize math word cards, there are a total of 21 words. The students will have a quiz on matching the words to it's operation on Tuesday, 9/27

Kevin is the first person in the 5th, 6th, and 7th grade to finish IXL Grade 3 Measurement.
Currently, the 6th Grade is in the lead for the
IXL Measurement Goal.
Keep up the great work, remember we need to finish the IXL Measurement Skills in Grade 3, 4, and 5 by November 1st!

All students in my math class require a calculator. The calculator does not need to be a fancy calculator, a TI 34 or TI 35.
Starting tomorrow, 9/7, there will be a daily calculator quiz. This will be one quiz grade, that will change daily. If a student has his or her calculator, then they will receive 100%. If they do not have a calculator they will receive a 0%.
