Week of May 5

I can hardly believe that Confirmation is already over. The kids did a great job with the program and I think they were wonderful on Thursday night.Weren't they great??? They made me proud!!!! Some of the students have expressed interest in continuing with their service projects. Talk about being proud!!! They will have an opportunity to further their projects very soon because I am sure that they are going to need help for the parish party on June 1st. Some of the kids have already volunteered to help with Vacation Bible School in July. Service opportunities continue during 8th grade (food drives, craft day, etc), and I am certainly hoping that the kids will take advantage of the opportunities. I never want them to think that service is just part of Confirmation. Thank you to all of you for the gift that was given to me the night of Confirmation.
This week will be a pretty normal week before all the activities for both 7th and 8th graders start.
We will be continuing with the usual things in classes.
I hope everyone had a nice weekend and have a great week.

Week of April 7

7th Religion: We are finishing up the chapter on the Gifts of the Spirit and will probably have a test on that chapter on Thursday.
The students are very busy at this time of the year. We have been able to work out any conflicts with service projects, sports, and the musical. I understand that all of these activities are important and I am very glad that we have been able to work it all out. The kids who are in the musical have practice 4 days this week and many of them have a Girl Scout outing on Friday. Obviously, some of them can't do their service project this week so they will go twice next week. There are a few of them that are behind and will be going three times next week!!!!! It will all work!!!!!

8th Religion: chapter test on Thursday.

8th Language Arts: Vocabulary test tomorrow. Final test on Tangerine on Friday.

Have a good week.

Have a great week.

10 March 2008

Week of March 10

8th Relgion: Test on Thursday. After this chapter, we will do a short chapter on Holy Week.

7th Relgion: We will be finishing up Chapter 4 this week. We will be doing some Lenten activities.

8th English: DOL due Wed.--test on Thurs. We are finishing up a chapter on pronouns in our grammar section.

8th Vocabulary: Lesson 10 due Thurs--test on Friday.

8th Reading: We are making good progress with "Tangerine". There is no way we will finish the book before spring break, but that is fine. We will begin Part 2 tomorrow.

Our homeroom Easter baskets were awesome. We had enough donations to make baskets for 2 junior high boys. The people at Father Joe's parish will be thrilled with all of the baskets from our school children. Thank you for your generosity for this project.

It was fun to see so many of you at the Volunteer Dinner last week. Thank you for all you do for us.

Have a great week.

02 March 2008

Week of March 3

7th and 8th Religion: I will be taking all of the religion classes to the chapel on either Monday or Tuesday to do the Stations of the Cross as a class. The rest of the week we will be using our regular religion books to finish up a chapter. 8th grade will probably have a chapter test on Thursday.

8th English: We will start a new Vocabulary lesson and DOL. We are also working on a grammar unit.

8th Reading: We are reading "Tangerine" and will be reading pages 32-64 on Monday night.

Next weekend is the St. Joseph's Table. Junior high students always help out at this event. I will be asking for kids to volunteer for a few hours on either Saturday or Sunday. The kids are always great about volunteering so I am sure it will not be a problem to get enough kids to help.

Homeroom reminders: Our homeroom is doing an Easter basket for an 8th grade boy to be donated to the poor. We agreed that the boys in the room would bring the "stuff" (candy, decks of cards, etc.) and the girls would donate money to buy gift cards. Only one boy has brought his donation for the basket. The girls have been pretty good, but not 100%. Last year we did a basket for a girl so the girls brought the things for the basket and the boys gave money. Since we have a boy's basket to do this year, we agreed to do it this way. Please remind them to bring in their donation to the basket by Wednesday. Student Council sponsors this project and I feel that it is a really great project. It makes us think about those that are not as fortunate as we are. Thanks for your support on this.

Graduation pictures are on Tuesday.

Everyone seemed to have a good time at the dance on Thursday night.

Have a great week.

25 February 2008

Week of February 25

8th Religion: We are starting Chapter 10 tmorrow.

8th English: Vocabulary test on Chapter 10 on Thursday.
Students are working on an essay that will be due on Wednesday. They will have time in class to work on it tomorrow.

8th Reading: We are starting our new novel ("Tangerine"). Expect your child to be doing something almost every night---either reading a section or vocabulary for the book, etc. Nothing was assigned tonight because the kids just received the books today and we did some pre-reading discussion. They are to read pages 1-32 for Wednesday.

The kids are looking forward to the dance on Thursday evening. Reminder: the dance is from 7:00-9:00. I am sure that everyone will have a good time.

Have a great week.

19 February 2008

Week of February 19

Students are expected to follow the behavior expectations as covered on page 20 of the Parent and Student Handbook, the rules each teacher has in her classroom, and the Junior High Portfolio. As of February 19th, if a student receives three or more behavioral detentions in one grading period a conference will be scheduled and consequences will be handed out based on the offenses. A consequence may be no attendance at a junior high function or field trip. Thank you for your cooperaton in helping our students to do their very best.

11 February 2008

Week of February 11

7th Religion: we are probably going to finish chapter 2 in our Confirmation book this week.
The students started their service projects today if they had not already started. There are groups going to the nursing home everyday of the week and groups going to Children's Campus three days each week. There have been kids working Bingo since September and kids helping at CCD and Sunday School since October. There are also many other service projects going on, and I am so proud of the students. Keep it up!!!!

DOL due tomorrow---test Wed. or Fri.

8th Reading: we will be done with "To Kill A Mockingbird" on Friday. We will review the book on Monday and take a final test on next

We sent home order forms for a new novel today. We weren't sure if we were going to be able to finish this many novels this year. That is why we are ordering a new one now. We will still read "Freak the Mighty" in the spring. Most of the kids ordered that one in the fall so we already have it. We are asking that you send the money ($5.00)for "Tangerine" (the new novel) by Wednesday so that we can order the books and be ready to start the book next week.
Thanks for everything and have a great week.
