Welcome to the Library

The Library is Open to All Students

The St. Juliana School Library is used by all students. The 3 year old preschoolers use the room for story time with their classroom teacher. The 4 year old preschoolers go to Library once a week for story time with the Librarian. Students in Kindergarten through 5th grade have a regularly scheduled weekly Library class. All students in grades 6th through 8th have various times allotted to them throughout the week when they are able to go to the Library as walk-ins on an as needed basis.

Kindergarten and 1st grade Library Policy
Students in Kindergarten and 1st grade are allowed to check out 1 book a week. They are allowed to keep the book for 1 week. All students are charged a $0.10 a day fee for past due books. The fees are only accumulated on school days, not weekends or holidays. No student will be allowed to check out a new book if they have an overdue book. If a book is lost or damaged, you will be given a notice detailing the cost to replace the book. A student is given the option to pay for the book or they can bring in a replacement book. No student will be allowed to check out a new book if they have a lost or damaged book fine that has not been taken care of. If a student is absent on Library day they should return their book as soon as possible and notify the Librarian that it is overdue due to illness. Please do not wait until the following week to return late books; otherwise late fees will be generated.

2ND grade through 8th grade Library Policy
Students in grades 2 are allowed to check out 2 books. Students in grade 3 through 8 may check out multiple books at a time as long as the student is able to read them and return when due. Students have access to the computers in the Library at the discretion of the Librarian and teachers. All students are to obey and follow the rules established in the School Computer Usage Policy.

Barnes & Noble Book Fair

Thank you to everyone who participated in this year's Barnes and Noble Book Fair. You helped make it a huge success! Over $600 in books were directly donated to the school library and classroom teachers. An additional $700 was raised for purchasing new books for the Library. All students in grades Preschool through 8th grade will benefit from your generosity. Also, congratulations to Taylor Cohen the winner of the Raffle Gift Basket.

New School Year

Welcome back to another school year! students have been visiting the Library for the past two weeks now and it's been a pleasure to meet all our new students and to see all the familiar faces.



This year we are looking forward to once again hosting a Barnes and Noble Holiday Book Fair. This year the Fair will be Sunday November 28th - mark your calendars!



The Battle of the Books is also returning but will be undergoing some "renovations" to the program. Look for details in November.

End of Year

Thank you to all of our generous donors throughout the year. The students always look forward to new books whether they are gently used or new.



I hope everyone has a happy and safe summer vacation. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone in the new school year.

New School Year

Welcome back! It's great to see all the students again and that they are anxious to start reading. This year we've added some new titles to our collection with many more to come. Our Library catalog can be accessed through the website https://stjulianaschool.follettdestiny.com be sure to check it out. The catalog will let you know what books we have and if they are available for check-out. This site also has access to a feature called Webpath Express. This feature enables students to do internet research through grade appropriate filtered sites.

Have A Great Summer!

As the school year draws to an end, I would like to thank everyone who donated books to the library this year. The students always love having new titles to choose from. A big thank you to Mrs. Hollis and Mrs. Guerrero for all the time they were able to generously give. The Kindergarteners loved having guest readers. Mr. McNally from the Roden Library recently spoke to the k - 4th grade students about the summer reading program. Many of the students seemed interested. Hopefully they will be able to check out this great program. Finally, Mrs. Dziubinski and I wish everyone a safe and happy summer. We look forward to seeing all of you in August!

Battle of the Books Pizza Party

All Battle of the Books participants who have returned their permission forms will be having a pizza party on Wednesday May 27th. The party will be held in the cafetaria after school until 3:45.

Summer Reading Program

The Chicago Public Library is hosting a Summer Reading Program for all school aged children. This year's theme is Land of Lincoln Readers. The program will be celebrating Illinois and Lincoln's 200th birthday.
Mr. McNally from the Roden Library will be talking to the students on Monday June 1st to promote this fun and educational program.

End of the Year Book Sale

Starting Friday June 29th, the students will be able to purchase books from the Library Book Sale. All books are $0.25 each.

End of the Year Returns

Friday, May 22 is the final day to return all library books. All outstanding fines and lost book fees should be paid by June 1st.

We will be conducting the annual book sale the first week of June. Students will have scheduled times to visit the sale with their classrooms. More info to come.

Champions!

Congratulations to Team 2 who represented us at the multi-school Battle of the Books. After a close competition and three rounds of attempting to break the tie, St. Juliana and St. Hilary were declared winners of the 2009 Battle of the Books. This year we had just under 80 students participate in the Battle program. Ms. Parkhill and I look forward to facilitating next year's group of readers.

Finalists for Battle of the Books

Congratulations to Teams 1 and 2 for being the two finalists for the ultimate multi-school battle. These two teams will battle each other to determine who will represent St. Juliana April 28th at the Championship Battle. Good Luck to everyone!
