Our homework for tonight is:

To stay cool!

Way too hot for any homework. We worked very hard today getting ready for Open House. We have some cute things waiting for you when you come.

I see Mrs. Barton has said 'Back to uniforms tomorrow'. It is amazing on how different the children act when they are out of uniform!!!!

FYI: Please return any forms tomorrow especially those technology ones so we can all use the computer lab when the day comes.

Thoughts from 32!

Our homework for tonight is:
Reading--Think of a fantastic tall tale on how you spent your summer vacation just like the way Wallace Bleff did in our story today: How I Spent My Summer Vacation. Be prepared to write a postcard to me telling what you did and some fun things that happened to you. I can't wait to see how imaginative you are!!!

FYI: Today I sent home that little yellow sheet for the subscription to Highlights magazine. Even if you do not want to subscribe, sign it and send it back. (They give us great prizes for returning them to the company!!!)

I only have one person that did not hand in the pink medical form. This is a fantastic percentage! Way to go parents!!!! YEAH!!!

As you may or may not know, we can come out of uniform tomorrow and bring a water bottle if you like! Temperatures are quite warm but we are the luckiest ducks in town. We have great air conditioning in Room 32!! SH-h-h-h!!!!

Thoughts from 32!

Today we have no real homework! But I did suggest that everyone practice making the Sign of the Cross properly for homework. Some are still a little unsure especially about what hand to use.

We had another busy day. Some were even surprised it was time to go home when two o'clock rolled around. We had fun getting to "interview" and "present" our friend in the front of the class. Who did your child interview? We ran short on the presentations but will pick up tomorrow where we left off today.

Thanks to all who returned the forms promptly! We almost had 100% turn in!

First Day of School

25 August 2010

Thoughts from 32!

It was exciting to see all your faces again today! We had a very busy morning. We went over all the rules of school and the behaviors expected. Some are still in the summer mode! We are working very hard to work quietly without talking and to be especially quiet when the teacher is talking! I know we will have this mastered within a few days time.

Our first bit of homework is the little brown bag with the directions on the front. See if you can get 4 things together that will fit inside the bag that represent you or would give insite as to what you like. Bring it in as soon as you can but know that I will not be able to "present" all the bags in one day. I can't wait to learn more about each one of you!

All mail and forms to be signed went home today in the BUSINESS folder. Any forms coming back to me should be placed in the tray marked "Mail For Me" on my desk upon arrival in the morning.

Looking forward to a great year together with all your beautiful smiling children!

Welcome to all my new students! Looking forward to a great school year together. It is a very special year! You will be making your First Holy Communion and that will be so exciting. Can't wait to see you all at the drop off in my room at 1:00 on Tuesday and then again on Wednesday morning. I will be holding a sign up so you know where to line up on the playground. In the event of rain we will meet in the Gym. See you soon!! LOVE, Mrs. Cahill

Last Thoughts from 32! :-(

Well this is the last time I will be writing to you this year. I am proud to say that everyone is well schooled for third grade. My advice is to practice those facts over the summer so you don't forget them! Statistics say that we forget information over the summer months. I also would love to see everyone read over the summer months. I have sent home a couple different programs offered by Barnes and Noble and our local library. This year is is supposed to be linked with an art program which sounds like it might be fun! Check it out!
We spent some time at the close of the day today talking about what we learned in second grade. It was fun to hear what they thought was an important thing learned this year.I tried to instill more than just the book learning. Hopefully, some will remain with them for years to come! Some of the highlights were:
Treat others as you would want to be treated.--"life skill."
Wash your hands!
Life is a test, some days we do great, others not so great.
God is all-forgiving!!!
How to add/subtract with and without regrouping---"Life Skill"
How to make your Communion--"life skill."
How to use mannners--"life skill."
Fractions
How to tell time--"life-skill."
Leave a good mark on others!
Be a bucket-filler!!!!---"life-skill."

These are just some of the things we learned in second grade. I have told them they should always remember the people that were in their Communion classroom. We became a tight knit family in here!

It is with a bit of a sad heart that I say goodbye but yet a glad heart knowing that they are prepared to go onto third and make their mark in the world there. All good things must come to an end! And so I say goodbye, good luck, and thanks for all you did to make our classroom a great place this year.
It has been my honor and pleasure to work with your child to the best of my ability. God bless you and thank you for making the sacrifice to send your child to a Catholic school. With love,
Mrs. Eileen Cahill

P.S. One last thing--Stand straight and tall when the Star Spangled Banner is played with your hand on your heart. And, start the clapping in an airport when you see a soldier!!!! Amen
