If you have extra wrapped Halloween candy you can bring it to school by Wednesday, November 2nd. The candy will be used for bag lunches for the homeless made by our Saint Vincent Depaul Society.
The Halloween party was a great success! Thank you for everyone who brought in the different items along with our great room mom's (Mrs. Mackey & Mrs. Bielfeldt). The children had so much fun playing the different Halloween games!

The Halloween party will be on Monday, and is being planned by the Room Moms. Thank you for all the supplies that were sent in to help make the party a success! If you have not yet sent your assigned supply in, please send it in on Monday. The children may come out of uniform, but no costumes are allowed.

We went to the science lab today and did an experiment on sink and float. Ask your child which items floated or sunk? Here are some pictures from the science lab.


Homework: Read "What a Pet!". Please return the book tomorrow. We finished units 1 & 2 in the reading series. Your child brought home their workbooks today. Look it over so you can see what we have been working on.
We went on a Ghostly "I SPy" Walk with our friends from Fourth grade. We looked for the Halloween decorations on our sheet and marked them off with our buddies. We had a "spook-tacular" time!
On Thursday we will be out-of-uniform for Red Ribbon Week. The children can wear red to remember to make good choices.
Religion: The parent letter is in the green folder. We are learning about the Golden Rule: Treat others the way you want to be treated. We are talking about how we take care of others in our classroom and in our families.
Language Arts: Today we read a short story-"What a Pet!" We even made a pet rock! The children will bring their books home tomorrow to read the story to you. I wanted them to focus on their spelling words tonight. Please don't forget to study and to return the spelling contract tomorrow! We will finish up Unit 2 this week and take our unit test.
Math-We are learning about fact families. We will be working on some strategies to help us with this concept.
Science-We are learning about pumpkins this week. We will measure, make a flap book, and do a science experiment with pumpkins.
Please check the green folder tonight. We had a lot of mail going home. Please check for the orange letter from our room moms. This has all the information regarding our Halloween Party next Monday. The Parent-Teacher Conference note with conference times is in the folder. If you cannot make your scheduled time, please let me know.
Homework: Reread the story using the puppets.
Your child needs to know the memory and pattern words for the spelling test next week. Spelling contracts are due the day of the spelling test.
Please bring in a shoe box for the art moms tomorrow.

Tomorrow we have some special visitors to our school from Junior Achievement. They will be spending the day teaching our students.

The children made a two sentence rhyme to put on their black spider that they made. Ask your child what rhyme they made? We had a web of fun with this project!
The new spelling words for Unit 2 went in your child's green folder last week. The test in not until Tuesday, October 25th. I have also attached a spelling contract to the word list. Please pick 5 activities from the list to practice the words. You can also make up an activity if you like. Please return the contract on the day of the spelling test. This will be a fun way to practice the spelling words.
Homework: Please have your child reread the story, "What Can You Get with a Nickel?"
Science: We are learning about bugs and spiders
In your child's green folder is a Math Pre-test. Please sign and return. Thank you!
Religion-We are discussing the sacrament of Baptism. Please bring in any Baptism pictures you may have of your child during the week. They will be returned the same day.

This week try to go to the Superkids website and read an interactive book for Unit 1 with your child. It does not matter what book you read from the three choices listed on the webpage.
In Science we are studying bats. Ask your child what they know about bats?
Continue to work with your child on their everyday words from Kindergarten. Next week I will check on their progress. Thank you!
A note went home today in your child's green folder about Art class next week. Please send a shoe box along with other items from nature such as sticks, leaves, pincones etc. by 10/19.
Math Homework: Have your child complete math page-use a number line to add.

The field trip is tomorrow. Please have your children come in uniform for the field trip.
Homework: Look through the fire safety checklist with your child that went home in their green folder. Also, have them read the next story in their reader.
Our first spelling test is on Friday. Please continue to work with your child on their words.

I have completed the class registration for the Superkids on-line portal. I sent everyone an email from this website to see if it worked. This activation will allow you to have access to our stories for each unit, along with additional interactive stories. This will be a wonderful way for you to practice reading the stories at your convenience.

Art- Your child will need a paint smock (old t-shirt) for Art class this week. Some children in the class do not have one.
Reading- Today we read Ettabetta's Radish Patch. Please read this poem with your child for homework. Continue to work with your child on their spelling words. The test will be on Friday.
Math- The Chapter Test & the Quick Check are in your child's green folder, please sign both and return tomorrow.
Social Studies-We are talking about fire safety this week. We will be going to Safety Town on Thursday.
We also went to the computer lab today to learn about Christopher Columbus.
