Tomorrow the students will have the chance to purchase the green SJS bracelets if they like for $5.00. A note went home yesterday.

In your child's green folder is the book "Telling the Time." The author gave each child a free copy to keep.

Ask your child about the interesting pictures and facts we learned about astronauts.

No out of uniform passes tomorrow we have Mass.

Language Arts-We will take a unit test on Wednesday.   Spelling Test Tomorrow along with contracts are due. Reread the story and return the book tomorrow.

Math-  The children practiced telling time to the hour today.  Please have your child complete the math page for homework and Rocket Math if needed.  Please sign and return Check My Progress.

Science-We talked about being an astronaut today. Each child made their own astronaut and tomorrow they will write a story about their adventures. We will also be working on our book reports this week about the planets. Tomorrow we will be going to the computer lab to write and illustrate a fact about their planet. 

Reminders:  Our field trip is Thursday. All children must be in uniform, please no out-of-uniform passes!

Language Arts-Today we started Unit 8. We are learning about the /ou/ and the /ow/ sounds.  The children had fun looking for words that contained these sounds hidden around room. Afterwards, they had to write and illustrate a sentence using the hidden words.

Math-We are continuing with our measurement unit.  We have been using different items throughout the classroom to measure with. They had fun measuring eachother using a non-standard tool of measurement. Ask you child what they used.

Science- Today we started making our own booklet about the planets.  We learned some interesting facts about Mercury and Venus. Ask your child about these planets. 

Homework:  Math page and Rocket math (if needed).

Reminders:  The children must be in uniform tomorrow for the May Crowning and on Wednesday for Mass.  Please feel free to join us for the school May Crowning at 2:00 tomorrow.

Please look for a very important note that came home in your child's backpack today. Tomorrow, the school children will be participating in making a video for the 85th Anniversary Gala about the electronic smart boards that are in classrooms and the computer lab. Read the information, and sign the release if you will allow your child to be a part of this production. No child will be allowed to participate if a form is not turned in. Thank you for your attention to this matter!

 In science this week we have been learning about the sun and stars. We went outside yesterday and the kids made their own constellation star using chalk. Ask your child what type of star they made.

Homework:  Read the story "The Runaway Dragon". Complete Rocket Math sheet (if needed).  Please sign the math test and return tomorrow.

Religion- We are learning about Mary and the rosary for the month of May.

Language Arts-We will continue to learn about the 'tricky r" sounds-ar, or and ear. The spelling test will be on Friday.

Math-We will begin our next chapter about measurement this week.

Science-We started our Space unit today.  We learned about stars-ask your child what interesting facts they know about stars.   We made a constellation out of our names and then they made their own constellation star using black paper and star stickers. Ask your child what shape they made. In your child's backpack is their star maker that we made in class.

Homework:  Please read the article in our reader called-"Making Stars".  Rocket Math sheet if needed.  Please sign the reading and math tests and return to school tomorrow.

Reminders:  I will pick a name to help chaperone for the field trip this week. The person that is picked will be notified later in the week.  Mothers' Club Hot Lunch on Friday. (McDonalds)

The kids did a great job with the mass today. I am so proud of all their hard work!

A new spelling list went home today. The test will be on May 10th. There are no memory words, only "trickers" so ALL of the words will be on the test.

Math - Go over the review page that was sent home on Tuesday. The test is tomorrow.

Science: We learned about the BIGGEST plants today...Trees. They thought it was really cool that you can tell a tree's age by the rings inside the trunk. The kids were excited to go outside and do "Bark Rubbings" to compare different types of tree trunks! Here are some pictures of different experiments and fun activities we are doing for our unit with plants. enjoy!

We are practicing for our Mass on Wednesday.  Feel free to join us on Wednesday at 8:45 as we celebrate Mass together with our faith buddies.  Please wear your yellow shirt to school on Wednesday with your uniform pants/jumpers.

Reminders: Tomorrow is Peace-a-Palooza, a celebration centered around our Building Peace Project--we will have a carnival to play games with our faith buddies. You can wear your yellow shirt with jeans, khakis, or school pants.  Also if you would like to make a donation to support the Misericordia Home for the Disabled they will be visiting the classrooms at lunchtime on Thursday.
