Wednesday News

We are working on our apples unit in conjunction with our Johnny Appleseed story in the reader. Tomorrow we will be making homemade applesauce in school. Please remember to send in your peeled and sliced apple tomorrow morning.
Continue to study your spelling words for the spelling test on Friday.
Please keep reviewing your word cards on a regular basis.
We are collecting item for a girls Easter basket. We are still in need of a basket or two. Please feel free to donate a basket instead of an item for the basket. Thanks!
The children are getting low on glue sticks and pencils. If you have any at home you could send in, that would be great.
In Math, we are working on counting on to add, and addition/subtraction facts to 12. Please continue to practice IXL Math.
Mothers Club Hot Lunch is on Friday, and it is pizza.
On Friday we will be out of uniform for collecting pop tops. Yeah!

Thursday News

Don't forget - there is a spelling test tomorrow.
The children have been working very hard on their puppet show of The Knee High Man. We will be performing for the second grade tomorrow.
If anyone has any inexpensive Easter baskets at home that they would be willing to donate to us, we will be using them for our Easter baskets for the underprivileged children. Thank you!

The children have a new spelling list for the week. The test will be on Friday.
This week we are celebrating the birthday of Dr. Seuss in school. We will be reading many of his classics.

Thursday News

A new spelling list was sent home yesterday. The test will not be until Monday, so they will have the weekend to practice them
The results of our dental health experiment are in! Ask your child to tell you what they learned about pop and flouride, and what was their effect on teeth. Pretty interesting stuff!
Don't forget to keep reading for the Olympic reading goal. Every time they read for at least 15 minutes, they can color in a torch.
The science experiments so far have been wonderful! Keep up the good work, and when your child gets the bag, remember you have until the next Friday to perform the experiment for the class. Of course, if you are ready early, send it in.
We will be out-of-uniform tomorrow. Keep collecting those pop tops.

Thursday News

Don't forget to study for our spelling test tomorrow.
Please continue to study both the new word cards and your math flash cards.
Practice makes perfect!
We are currently working on a dental health unit. Thank you for bringing in the supplies for our science project this week. Each group is soaking one egg in water, one egg in Coke, and one egg (covered in flouride toothpaste) in Coke. The egg shell is similar to our tooth enamel, so we were curious to see what would happen to the eggs. We'll let you know the results of our experiment as soon as possible.
The Great America reading forms for the free ticket are due tomorrow. No late forms can be accepted.
Also, the last day for book orders is tomorrow.

Thursday News

Don't forget...tomorrow is our spelling test. Remember to study!
The mardi gras beads are still on sale, thank you for your support of this fundraiser.
The Valentine's Day party is tomorrow. The children may come out of uniform dressed in something red, pink or a Valentine shirt. Please send valentines for your child to pass out in school, addressed to each child. Writing the names is good practice for them.
Thank you for sending in the supplies for the party. It is sure to be a great time!

Tuesday News

New word cards and spelling lists were sent home yesterday. The spelling test is on Friday.
Don't forget to keep practicing addition and subtraction facts on IXL Math.
Great America reading forms are due on Feb. 19. This is a great way to get a free ticket.
The Room Moms are planning a Valentine's Day party on Friday. Please refer to your letter to see what you were asked to bring in, and send in as soon as possible.
This Friday we are also having Art Mom. The children LOVE this special treat!
The science take home bag is coming around. When your child brings it home, please have them choose one experiment to perform for the class. You will always have several days to prepare.

Hats for Haiti

I forgot to put this in today's news, but tomorrow will be crazy hat day in school. If the children bring in a dollar (or more) for Haiti relief efforts, they may wear a hat of their choice all day.
And one last reminder...you can still sign up to volunteer for Thursday's Circus Day. Even if you can't come to the meeting on Wednesday, you can still come and help on Thursday.
