Wednesday News

Today's Highlights...

*Attending our first all-school Mass for the new school year. Fr. Steve reminded us that we are all created HOLY, and belong to the FAMILY OF GOD. Hopefully we'll find ways to honor that daily...

*Creating covers for our Writing Portfolios. Throughout the year, we will add our original writing projects (beginning with our suitcases & letters to the teacher!

*Reflecting upon the goodness that God has shown us in our lives & making a list of examples. What's on your child's list...?

*Meeting our 1st Grade Reading Buddies from Mrs. Hecker's class. We enjoyed the fresh air reading books together and then "cooled down" with a popsicle treat.

HOMEWORK:

Reading- study for Friday's quiz

English- finish portfolio cover

Spelling- complete pp.20-21, study words, try a game at Spelling City

Science- study cell paper

Social Studies- study notes

***Due to the heat, we'll be OUT of UNIFORM both tomorrow & Friday!

Tuesday News

Today's Highlights...

*Learning about the difference between a sentence and a fragment. We used our whiteboard slates to practice.

Can your child tell you what 2 parts make up a sentence (we compared it to a "Reese's Peanut Butter Cup"

*Discovering about the history of the Bible, reading stories from the Bible in our small groups and determining the title of the stories. Next we watched a short video presentation about the Bible. What can your child teach you about this most holy book...?

*Working with a partner on our first 2 pages of the spelling unit - We'll be working on 2 pages per day, finishing at home what is not completed in class.

*Sharing our "Wall of Fame" projects with our groups

HOMEWORK:

English: Sheet 2

Spelling: Study words, complete pp.18/19 in speller, try a game at Spelling City
Reading: PP. 2a, 3, finish worksheet if not done
Science: Study cell paper

Monday News

Today's Highlights...

*Reading a poem that compared grammar to basketball & then making a list of the various grammar rules that we know. What can you child teach you about these topics...

*Taking our first spelling pretest. These are to be used as a tool to study from, giving attention to the words that were misspelled.

*Learning about St. Monica, who's feast day was August 27th, then we worked in groups to make a list of 10 words describing this special helper of God. What was on your child's list...?

HOMEWORK:

*Bring art smock & gym shoes in a tote bag

Reading: pp.1/2

English: Read letter from Mrs. Boldt & write one in return. The directions are in the letter. Don't forget to color the border!

Spelling: Study list. Try going on Spelling City as well. The directions are as follows - www.spellingcity.com select "student" (upper right), "Find a List" tab on left, type "Boldt" for search by teacher name, click on my name (Christine Boldt), Read my message then click on the unit that you want to practice

Thursday News

Today's Highlights...

*We began switching classes today - having the opportunity to meet ALL of our teachers. Be sure to ask how it all went...

*We brainstormed ways to SERVE one another as God calls us to do, and created a special "phone" project. How will your child answer God's call..?

HOMEWORK:

*Wall of Fame project, due Monday

*Bring in Art Smock & gym shoes (if want)Please have in bag to keep in coatroom

*$4 for assignment notebook

*Reading photo when have it

*Any forms from the office

Welcome Back to School, Room 24!

Today's Highlights...

*Our day began with a lot of "housekeeping" - unpacking, receiving books & organizing supplies. Organization is a skill that will lead to a successful school year! We will try our best to keep our desks as orderly as they are today...

*We got some relief from the heat in our classroom by visiting the Library, thanks to Mrs. Jimenez for sharing her space. While there, we read the book "Let's Be Kind" and learned our ONE CLASS RULE(be sure to ask what it is...) Next each student wrote their own version of class "Rights & Responsibilities". Take a look inside your child's folder to see what she/he wrote...

*Finally we created "fortune tellers" writing about some of our favorite things. Then we partnered up and learned about each other. What can your child tell you about a classmate...?

*On a side-note, let me take this opportunity to share how pleased I am to be your child's teacher this year. They are a wonderful group of young people - showing great manners and patience with the room temperature!

HOMEWORK:

*Cover all hardcover books - stretchy covers may be used as long as they are the JUMBO size

*Bring $4 to purchase an assignment notebook. Only school-issued assignment notebooks may be used.

*A pink sheet was in the HOMEWORK folder requesting a photo of your child reading(explanation is on the page.) Please send this in at your earliest convenience.

*A LOT of mail was sent home today. Please read through carefully and return to school ASAP. Please note the 1/2 yellow sheet from Highlights magazine - by signing & returning(even if you DON'T want to order), we can earn free items for the classroom!

*BRING LUNCH TOMORROW
