Saint Juliana School Board

Meeting Minutes

March 6, 2012



In attendance: Kathleen Barton, Nancy Battaglia, Christopher Bielfeldt, Una Durkan, John Gallagher, Denise Javers, Jamie Kumiega, Mike MacGregor, Sue McInerney,Tim Neenan, Ken Platz, Jeff Rogers, John Ryder, Don Sondermann, and Mary Sugrue.

Meeting called to order at 7:05

3. February Meeting Minutes Approved

4. Principal’s Report

Academics:

• Technology- Ms. Smith, the Spanish teacher has posted a power point on the school website with link to video of students speaking, singing and praying in Spanish.



• Teacher In-service scheduled for March 16th, topic will be the Common Core Standards as aligned to current curriculum.



• Live Scribe Pens- School just purchased a Live Scribe Pen to be used with the Smartboards to take notes and record voices. Ms. Oh has been working on a lesson about the eye; an example of this new technology can be seen on her blog.





Catholic Identity:

• Confirmation Service Projects- Seventh grade students continue to work on their service projects volunteering at various organizations in the community.



• 8th Grade Retreat presented by Net Ministry from Minnesota.



• Volunteer Dinner- Conflicts with the annual Irish Family Mass necessitate that this year’s volunteer dinner be a brunch after mass on Wednesday, March 21st.



• Lenten Outreach- Many events have been planned for Lent 2012 including: Shove Tuesday, Ash Wednesday, Operation Rice Bowl, Lenten Prayer Partners, Weekday masses in Church 7:00 A.M., Thursday morning prayer in library 7:45 A.M., Reconciliation March 20th for 4th grade, Stations of the Cross March 23, grades1-4, Parish Mission: Reflections on the Seven Last Words of Christ March 25-27, Mass with Friar Johnpaul March 27, Stations of the Cross March 30, Lenten Penance Service April 3 and Student Council Easter Baskets.



Parents/Communication:

• New Family registration has begun. Mrs. Barton continues to give tours to prospective families. Will continue through March, call office to schedule appointment.



Students:

• Classroom Activities:

• 3yr. old Preschool- built a snowman and made Lenten promises

• 4yr. old Preschool- working with Letter People and can count to 12 in Spanish

• 1st Grade-Dinosaur Month, participated in a “Dig” in the science lab

• 2nd Grade- Preparing for First Communion, reading fluency scores continue to improve and have read ten novels so far this year

• 4th Grade-Reconciliation and partnered with Christ the King School in England to work on shared power points

• 7th Grade- Completed Constitution Test and have Lenten pray partners

• 8th Grade- Trip to Holocaust Museum on March 7th



5. Fr. Steve’s Report

• Review of Income and Expense Report February 2012.

• Parish Council will schedule budget meeting in March.



6. 2012/2013 School Board Nominations

• Notice is in bulletin and can be found on school website

• 6 position available

• Election will be held, if necessary, during May Coffee, Tea and Thee







7. Committee Reports

a. Finance

• Will meet with the parish council to discuss upcoming budget in March. Will then present to the School Board regarding outlook for next year’s tuition.

b. Fundraising

• Working on a video presentation for the BTB Fund-A-Cause.

c. Technology

• No Report

d. Marketing

• BTB pre-party planned for March 24, 2012. Would like to collect donations of wine and cash.

• Will collect nominations forms before April meeting for review.

e. Operations

• No Report

f. Bylaws/Legislative

• No Report



8. Coffee, Tea, and Thee

• School Board is hosting April Coffee, Tea and Thee on the 1st. John Ryder will email schedule.



9. New Items/Miscellaneous
