Meeting Minutes
October 4, 2011
In attendance: Kathleen Barton, Fr. Steve Kanonik, Nancy Battaglia, Christopher Bielfeldt, Una Durkan, John Gallagher, Denise Javers, Jamie Kumiega , Sue McInerney, Tim Neenan, Jeffrey Rogers, John Ryder, Don Sondermann, Todd Steffen, and Mary Sugrue.
Meeting called to order at 7:10

3. September Meeting Minutes Approved
4. Principals Report
Academics:
SuperKids Reading: Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday consultant for the new, early childhood reading program (grades K-2) is coaching the teachers. Parent/board member expressed contentment with new program that meets all of the Core Standards.
SMART boards: installation begins on October 5, 2011 and will take place over a 3 day period. Training on the new boards will also take place.
Catholic Identity:
Presentation of Bibles for grade 6 at mass on Wednesday, October 11, 20ll. The Bible will be used for study of the Old Testament.
Eucharistic Day of Adoration on Friday, October 7, 2011. This worldwide event will be celebrated during Holy Time, and it will include an explanation for the students.
Parents/Communication:
Coffee and Conversation Discussion occurred on two separate days--
Grades 5-8 occurred on Thursday, September 29, 2011. Mrs. Oh was also present to discuss Science Fair and science curriculum assessment. Other topics discussed included confirmation service hours and patrol duty.
Grades Pre-K-Grade 4 occurred on Friday, September 30, 2011. Mrs. Granata was also present to discuss the computer lab and computer education. Other topics included reading buddies, teacher blogs, lice, and the bullying policy.
The next Coffee and Conversation will be at the end of October or early November. The math program will be the focus.
Mrs. Barton also distributed the Tuition/Enrollment Projections for 2011-12 for the Council, which includes St. Cornelius, St. Eugene, Immaculate Conception, St. John Brebeuf, Mary, Seat of Wisdom, St. Mary of the Woods, St. Monica Academy, and St. Paul of the Cross.
7. Fr. Steves Report
Distributed the Income and Expense School Report for July/August., as prepared by the Finance Counsel, who meets the 3rd Thursday of each month.
Explained some of the Miscellaneous on the budget items in depth.

Brainstorming suggestions for Blacktop Ball fund-a-cause to be discussed in detail at the November meeting.
Teachers to be surveyed regarding their thoughts for the Blacktop Ball fund-a-cause.
Marketing TRIP discussed. Ideas included sending home an order form to each family for holiday shopping, and making a sign for the Coffee, Tea, and Thee TRIP table. Denise Javers and Chris Bielfeldt offered to oversee this project.
c. Technology
Smartboard installation in progress. Nancy Battaglia assisted with implementation.
d. Marketing
Calendar with month-by-month description of School Board duties distributed.
e. Operations
Completed trade applications coming in for the Parish Tradesman Registry. Applications and details will also be placed on the Web as well as in the bulletin.
f. Bylaws/Legislative

9. Coffee Tea, and Thee
Schedule circulated for November and December slots.
10. New Items/Miscellaneous
Three teachers helping with After-School Science for the 7th and 8th graders, who are working on the Future Cities project; they are building a city on fuel of the future. The goal is to have After-School Science for the younger grades in the spring.
Question was posed regarding increasing the salary for paid parent helpers.
