The Archdiocese of Chicago sponsored an annotated pictorial history of the parishes of Chicago. The book contains two main sections: approximately one-third is dedicated to the rich history of the Archdiocese of Chicago from the early years as a mission church to its current status as one of the largest Catholic dioceses in the world. The second section introduces each parish in the city of Chicago and surburbs encompassed by the archdiocese, His Eminence, Francis Cardinal George, O.M.I., Archbishop of Chicago provides a preface to the book. An iTunes/iPad app is also available, featuring over 1,000 full-color photographs showcasing the history and beauty of the parishes of the Archdiocese of Chicago. Search for Archdiocese of Chicago Churches in iTunes; proceeds benefit the Cardinal's Scholarship Fund.
Each parish biography is highlighted with three photographs representing the exterior and interior of the church and a distinguishing feature that the parish regards as a treasure. Hundreds of color photographs, archival documents, paintings and maps illustrate the rich history of the Catholic Church in Chicago. A Journey of Faith provides readers with a basic knowledge of Catholic Chicago's origins and heritage, its life and ministry, its evolution and challenges, growth and changes since its foundation.
