Fortnight for Freedom

Our U.S. bishops have called for pastors and the laity to vigorously defend religious freedom, setting aside a two-week period this summer to take action.

Beginning with the vigils for the feasts of St. John Fisher and St. Thomas More and ending with Independence Day, the "Fortnight for Freedom" observes the challenge of preserving our religious liberty protections as guaranteed under the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

The June 24 bulletin features more information, as well as a very thoughtful and concise article on the subject of religious freedom by Rev. Louis Cameli.

Dioceses nationwide will be celebrating special Masses and holding prayer vigils, as Catholics are urged to reflect, ponder and act upon this key issue underlying the foundation of our country.

There are tools for daily reflections during the Fortnight for Freedom, and we encourage you sign up for I-CAN (the Illinois Catholic Advocacy Network) to join the fight to protect religious freedom for all Americans, and follow their activities on Facebook.
