Holy Week 2010 PDF Print E-mail

Holy Week is also known as the Easter Triduum. Triduum comes from a Latin word for "three days." These days -- beginning with the evening of Holy Thursday and culminating with the Easter Vigil -- draw us into the mystery of our salvation. In preparation, we can be open to the graces each day offers: Pause in the morning to acknowledge the meaning of the day ahead. Each night, give thanks. Even if we are unable to celebrate these days liturgically, we can reflect upon the symbols and rituals, and let them draw us in, that we might know the depth of the love being offered us, and power of the gift of life won for us.

Parish Penance Services - Monday, March 29

We celebrate the Lord’s forgiveness through prayer, music and Scripture readings, and the individual sacrament of Reconciliation. Two services: 1:30 PM and 7:00 PM in church.

School Penance Services - Tuesday, March 30

Our school students will attend penance services in church at 9:15 and 10:00 AM.

Holy Thursday - April 1

A Service of the Last Supper begins at 7:00 PM in church, and includes the traditional Washing of the Feet ceremony. The offertory will be directed to the Alexian Brothers HIV/AIDS ministry. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament takes place between 8:30 PM and 11:00 PM. Parish groups have designated times at which they're encouraged to attend together, however everyone is welcome at any time during the evening.

Holy Saturday - April 3

The day begins with morning prayer at 9:00 AM, followed by Blessing of the Baskets at 11:00 AM. There is no 5:00 PM mass. The Paschal Triduum culminates with the Easter Vigil at 7:00 PM. The first celebration of the Resurrection, the service is filled with much splendor and joy, and features the music of our adult and handbell choirs. Attendance at this service satisifies the Easter Sunday obligation. Holy water will be available after the service; please bring your own containers.
