Letters from a Pastor to His People November 1, 2020
Today, November 1st, we celebrate the Solemnity of All Saints. This is a holy day of obligation, but because the feast falls on a Sunday this year, we kill two birds with one stone!
Ive noticed, and many of you have jokingly remarked to me, that in my homilies on a particular saints feast day Ill say, such and such is one of my favorite saints or shes definitely in my top 5. And my top 5 is like 500.

Pastors Letter, 2020 Annual Report
Dear Parishioners,
I am pleased to present the 2020 Saint Juliana Parish Annual Report. This was perhaps one of the most unique years in our parish's history. Remember, this report technically covers July 1, 2019 through June 30, 2020. Here were some highlights
* Our second successful Emerald City Gala in September 2019 that gathered us together at the Rosemont Convention Center and brought in over $80,000 for the parish.
* Queen of Hearts 2.0, which, in the end, brought in for us over $600,000. We started Queen of Hearts 3.0, but it was put on hold with COVID. The current pot for that raffle is $68,000 and will resume, hopefully, in the near future.
* Renovation of the first floor of the Parish Center Renovation with all new meeting rooms, kitchen, and bathrooms.
* Renovation of the Parish Hall (i.e., school lunchroom).
* Painting all the school classrooms and hallways.
* Tuckpointing of the church building.

SAINT JULIANA PARISH & SCHOOL RENOVATIONS
Over the upcoming weeks, we will be sharing our latest renovations at Saint Juliana in Chicago. Since many of you do not have access to these spaces due to the pandemic guidelines, we thought we would share some exciting renovations that have been made to our Parish, Parish Center and School.

Weekly Gospel Readings November 1, 2020
Today the Church honors all the Saints who have allowed the face of God to be seen in them. The First Reading is from the Book of Revelation. The Book of Revelation was written to give hope to the early Christians who were suffering persecution under the Emperor Domitian (8196 AD) for their belief in the Lamb, the Risen Christ

Feast of All Souls November 2, 2020
Monday, November 2 is the Feast of All Souls. There will be just one Mass at 830am and we will read the names of the deceased from the previous year at this Mass. If you are unable to attend Mass this day, please consider spending a few minutes in quiet prayer, offering that time for the souls of the faithful departed and their grieving family members. Its never easy to lose a loved one, but during the pandemic illnesses and deaths have been especially difficult. I know all of our prayers will make difference in easing this burden.

Lieutenant Joseph Dutton of the Union Army crawled out into the night during a Civil War battle and dragged a wounded soldier back to camp. When the light was shone upon the rescuee, a comrade remarked, The jokes on you, Dutton, this man is a rebel. Dutton did not flinch, but simply responded, that I knew.

Reflections from Our Seminarians Christian MelendezCruz
Dei Verbum is the Dogmatic Constitution on Divine Revelation document published in 1965 and included in the Vatican Council II—Constitution Decrees Declarations. It was created to explain the relationship between the Scriptures and Sacred Tradition. It emphasizes the absence of errors in Gods self revelation to the world. The document clearly states that God reveals himself to humans in their reason and knowledge capacities.

The Saint Juliana Parish Book Club will meet on Saturday, November 21 at 915am in the back of the church to discuss Morte D'Urban by J.F. Powers.
The hero of J.F. Powers's comic masterpiece is Father Urban, a man of the cloth who is also a man of the world. Charming, with an expansive vision of the spiritual life and a high tolerance for moral ambiguity, Urban enjoys a national reputation as a speaker on the religious circuit and has big plans for the future. But then the provincial head of his dowdy religious order banishes him to a retreat house in the Minnesota hinterlands. Father Urban soon bounces back, carrying Gods word with undaunted enthusiasm through the golf courses, fishing lodges, and backyard barbecues of his new turf.

Weigh Your Conscience Before Casting Your Ballot
On November 3, 2020, all Americans eligible to vote will have the opportunity to shape our form of government for the next two years and beyond. In the midst of the commotion surrounding elections, especially presidential races, it is worth taking time to reflect on how fortunate we are to live in a country where we are able to choose our leaders.
Before casting our ballot, we have the obligation to reflect on the issues affecting our state and our nation. To help guide us on the particular issues of concern to the Catholic Church, we offer the following as a reminder. Millions of dollars are spent trying to influence how you will cast your ballot, so it is up to each of us to both form and inform our conscience by recalling the heart of the Gospel and the teachings of Jesus Christ.

St Vincent DePaul Society Annual Coat Drive
Due to COVID restrictions there will not be a designated weekend for our Coat Drive this year. However, we encourage you to donate coats in the St. Vincent de Paul drop boxes behind the Parish Center. Please note for this years collection ALL COATS MUST BE IN BAGS
