Letters From A Pastor to His People January 27, 2019
Dear Parishioners,
I have to mention Ezra from our first reading, being the canon lawyer that I am.Because, you see, Ezra is connected to the law and quite significant when it comes to establishing the foundation for church law.
Ezra lives about 450 BC during the Diaspora, or when the Jews were dispersed throughout the Middle East. Jerusalem had been destroyed and many of the Jews taken into captivity in Babylon. He is a scribe and priest (remember how Jesus confronts the scribes?). He is sent by Artaxerxes, the King of Persia, who has conquered the area, back to Jerusalem to reestablish the Torah or the law to the Jews who were now living back in Israel.

TOTS & COMPANY
Every Friday morning when Saint Juliana School is in session we host a casual gathering for tots (age 03) and their caregivers in the Ahearn Activity Center from8:15 to 10am.
Tots & Company is free and open to everyone, parishioner or nonparishioner. All you need to do is show up! Its a great time to connect with other moms, dads, grandparents and caregivers to enjoy coffee, donuts and adult conversation while the little ones can have a playgroup of their own as they run (or crawl) around our spacious gym. We also have juice boxes and snacks for the kids.

Basic Ministry of Care Training Course
This 5week training will take place on Tuesday evenings 79pm from January 29th through February 26th at Presence Saint Benedict Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 6930 West Touhy Avenue, Niles. Per Archdiocesan guidelines it is important that new Ministers of Care attend all 5 training sessions to be mandated.
This course is designed with the person in mind who is new to parish ministry. Each session will focus on a particular aspect of the Ministry of Care; however, the unifying thread woven through all is a commitment to helping you develop the skills and confidence needed to be a source of comfort to those who are sick. Completion of this course qualifies you to receive the Archdiocesan mandate to bring Communion to the sick, homebound and hospitalized of your parish. Sessions will run two hours and will include a talk given by an experienced facilitator accompanied by group discussion and/or an exercise to help you practice a particular skill.
If you are interested in attending please contact Deacon Ed Dolan @ 773.443.0560 or Deacon Bob Ryan @ 773.631.4127. Only those who have the endorsement of the parish will be admitted. The form must be signed by a Deacon so please RSVP early.
