Pop quiz! Who was the first saint?
a) St. Joseph
b) St. John the Baptist
c) St. Michael the Archangel
d) St. Stephen the Martyr
e) The Holy Innocents
Okay, I know its Christmas Break and you werent prepared, so Ill be merciful. No need to call the Cardinal to complain and ask for a redo. Ill accept any of your answers. For one could make a theological and historical argument for each of the above.
But, if we had to choose, (and the answer I usually tell the students in school), I would say: e) The Holy Innocents.
The Solemnity of Mary Mother of God Holy Day of Obligation
The Solemnity of Mary Mother of God falls exactly one week after Christmas, the end of the octave of Christmas. It is fitting to honor Mary as Mother of Jesus, following the birth of Christ.
When Catholics celebrate the Solemnity of Mary Mother of God we are not only honoring Mary, who was chosen among all women throughout history to bear God incarnate, but we are also honoring our Lord, who is fully God and fully human.
Calling Mary mother of God is the highest honor we can give Mary. Just as Christmas honors Jesus as the Prince of Peace, the Solemnity of Mary Mother of God honors Mary as the Queen of Peace.
On this holy feast day, let us take a moment as we start our new year to honor our Blessed Mother, who in her yes to God brought our Savior into the world to redeem us.
Join us for Mass to Honor Mary, Mother of God:
New Years Eve Vigil 5:00pm
New Years Day 7:30am and 9:30am
First Friday Eucharistic Adoration
First Friday Eucharistic Adoration will take place in the church on January 4starting at 9:00 am and endingwith benediction at 5:45 pm. Please considering stopping by to spend some time with Jesus.
On the first and third Sunday of every month during the 11:00am Mass we offer Family Mass.Join us on January 6th at 11:00am for this celebratory way for family members at every age to participate in prayer and worship together.
3Cs in Christ Coffee, Conversation and Contemplation
Do you believe its possible to be happier than you have ever been before? Not for fleeting moments, but consistently? Bestselling author Matthew Kelly believes it is possibleand in his latest book, The Biggest Lie, he explains how.
We all want to be happy and live life to the fullest, but the answer isnt found in the worlds definition of happiness. Modern culture is constantly feeding us lies, and these lies affect you more than you know. The lies that affect you the most, however, are the ones you tell yourself. These lies steal your joy, sap your energy, and cause you to lose hope. They prevent you from discovering the kind of vibrant faith the first Christians experienced.
But as Kelly shows, weve arrived at a crucial moment in history. People are disillusioned with what the world offers. The world is in desperate need of change, and no one is in a better position to effect that change than Christians. We have an incredible opportunity to dispel the lies and cut through the confusion and false promises around us.
This book provides the practical tools necessary to help you regain your fervor and leave your mark on the worldand experience more happiness than you thought possible. Together we can change the course of historywith humility, generosity, kindness, and joy, one Holy Moment at a time.
Please join us at our next 3Cs in Christ discussion on January 6 3:30pm to 4:30pm to hear and share insights and perspectives on Matthew Kellys The Biggest Lie in the History of Christianity.
