Advent, as Im sure you are well aware, means coming. There are three comings of Christ that we recognize during this Liturgical season.Cistercian monk and (recently deceased) spiritual writer Thomas Keating writes, The first is his historical coming in human weakness and the manifestation of his divinity to the world; the second is his spiritual coming in our inmost being through the liturgical celebration of the ChristmasEpiphany Mystery; the third is his final coming at the end of time in his glorified humanity.
In other words, there is a past, present, and future comingThe past is the memorialaspect of Christs coming 2,000 years agoThe future is the apocalypticaspect when he will come again at the end of time to bring the earth to final gloryThe present is the graceaspect of our Lord into our hearts right now.
On the first and third Sunday of every month during the 11:00am Mass we offer Family Mass.Join us on December 16 at 11:00am for this celebratory way for family members at every age to participate in prayer and worship together.
Oplatki or Angel Bread are now available for sale in the church sacristy and parish office during the holiday season
The tradition of the Oplatki originated in Poland as early as the seventeenth century.he Oplatki are enjoyed by families, typically right before the Christmas Eve meal. The entire family will gather around the table with the Oplatek. Generally, the eldest member of the family will begin the ritual by breaking off a piece of the wafer and passing it to another family member with a blessing. This blessing can simply consist of what you desire for your loved one in the upcoming yearwhether it be good health, success, or happiness. The purpose of this act is primarily to express ones love for each member of his or her family.
The significance of the Oplatki Christmas wafer is in that it shadows the Eucharistic meal Catholics participate in at each MassJust as we share in the Eucharist as one family in Christ and receive Christs love through the Eucharist, the Oplatki allows for ones immediate family to come together and share the love they have for one another.
The Oplatki tradition is one that is easy and fun to introduce to the family at Christmas time. All it requires is a simple wafer paired with love and affection, and the willingness to share it. This is a heartwarming tradition that will enhance your familys time together during the Christmas season.
Tis the season of penance services! Please join us on Monday, December 17th at 1:30pm and 7:00pm in the church.
Celebrating and receiving the sacrament of Reconciliation can be among the most blessed of human experiences.Yet, there are a number of reasons why we dont take advantage of this sacrament or we dont celebrate it well. Fear, shame, bad experiences of the past, a long time since the last reception of the sacrament or bad habits in celebrating it now ... are all possible reasons.
The solution is so simple. An understanding of Reconciliation and a small encouragement to give it a new try, with a new expectation, can literally change our lives and will certainly renew our faith.
Come join fellow Lectors from Mary, Seat of Wisdom, Our Lady of Hope, Our Lady of Ransom, St. Juliana, and St. Paul of the Cross parishes for a morning of reflection and renewal on Saturday, January 12 from 9:00am12:30pm.

Scripture scholar and Institute for Diaconal Studies instructor, Fr. James McIlhone, will speak on the Gospel of Luke. The retreat will be held on the MSW Parish campus in Park Ridge.
