Letters From A Pastor to His People - November 25, 2018
We celebrate this weekend the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, the King of the Universe. Let me talk a little theology with you all, unpacking, albeit cursorily, what it means that Jesus is King. I won't take offense if you fall asleep while reading.Hopefully my homily will be more engaging.
When Jesus came upon this earth and then died for our sins, he offered himself to the Father. This offering to the Father obtained our salvationJesus then also took the fruits of this offering, or merits, theologians might say, and applied them to each of us. Thus, there is an upward movement of Christ to the Father, as well as a downward (or lateral) movement of Christ to us
Mary, by the way, works with Jesus in that lateral movement. She assists those divine graces coming to us from the fruits of Christ's offering.
So Christ dying was just one part of the equation. We need to receive, each of us, the fruits of that death. It is possible for us to not receive the fruits; for us to reject the graces Christ won for us.To help fight against this, Jesus has established himself as King (and Mary as Queen).
Jesus, as King, has governance of our soulsAs Dominican theologian, Pierre Paul Philippe writes, It is a power which has been given to [Jesus] to help us be better disposed to receive the divine graces and make the best of them.
At this time of our Thanksgiving Holiday Weekend we realize how thankful we are for all our parishioners for their dedication to our parish. It is through their stewardship, mentoring and service that our parish is able to thrive as a loving and caring faith-filled community.
We Pray For Peace
We pray for the victims of the Mercy Hospital shootings and their families. May they find comfort and strength in God and their faith communities. We pray for the end of senseless violence throughout the world. We pray for peace.
On the fourth Sunday of every month during the 9:30am Mass we offer Sunday School for children age 3-6. Parents are invited to enter the school through the Ahearn Activity Center (gym) doors before going to 9:30 Mass. Our helpers will guide you to room 12, where you may drop off and retrieve your child immediately following Mass.
We spread the Gospel message to our youngest worshipers in a comprehensive way through age-appropriate stories, discussion, and hands-on activities.
There is no cost for our Sunday School program, and all children of preschool to kindergarten age (3-6) are welcome, parishioners and non-parishioners alike.
The celebration of the Sunday Eucharist is the center point of the life of any Catholic community. At St. Juliana we strive to celebrate Mass as best we can; but to do that, we need lots of help. In addition to maintaining our beautiful worship space, we have a great need for additional Eucharistic Ministers.
We formally invite you to become a Eucharistic Ministerto serve our parish and its visitors by assisting in the distribution of the Body and Blood of our Lord during Mass on the weekends, Holy Days, and other special days.
If you are interested in joining this most rewarding ministry, or have questions, please take a form in the back of the church or call the parish office. We will be in touch with you regarding the training program. Thank you for your consideration!
We are looking to expand our USHERS TEAMall men, women, and teens are invited to join! We are expanding our team of ushers, and we need YOU! Saint Juliana Parish ushers are called to be Ministers of Hospitality.
They are entrusted with welcoming everyone who enters our church for Mass each weekend. Our ushers are living representatives of the Parish Mission Statement to Experience Jesus.
As we are expanding the role of ushers in our Sunday experience, training will be scheduled for current and new ushers prior to the Advent season. If you are interested in joining the team, see our head usher Chet Moylan in the back of Church after most Masses.
INTERESTED IN HELPING OUR SUNDAY HOSPITALITY MINISTRY?
One of the Saint Juliana Pastoral Council initiatives this year is to engage all of Saint Juliana Ministries and School organizations in our Sunday Hospitality Ministry. Each Ministry will provide their members/volunteers to participate two weekends a year by overseeing and staffing the greeting and hospitality responsibilities at all Masses during the assigned weekend.

Every Friday morning when Saint Juliana School is in session we host a casual gathering for tots (age 0-3) and their caregivers in the Ahearn Activity Center from8:15 to 10am.
Tots & Company is free and open to everyone, parishioner or non-parishioner. All you need to do is show up! It's a great time to connect with other moms, dads, grandparents and caregivers to enjoy coffee, donuts and adult conversation while the little ones can have a playgroup of their own as they run (or crawl) around our spacious gym. We also have juice boxes and snacks for the kids.
Each week on Tuesday evening we offer a one-hour talk about a different theological topic. The presenter is our pastor, Father James Wallace, and we gather in the chapel, located in the ministry center building.
