Letters From A Pastor to His People - October 21, 2018
"The LORD was pleased to crush him in infirmity" (Is 53:10).
Scripture scholars believe the prophet Isaiah is referring to Aaron Rodgers, quarterback of the Green Bay Packers. Yes, Lord, please crush Rodgers.
Just kidding. But seriously, who is being crushed in our first reading? And is God really pleased to see someone crushed?
From the Christian vantage point, it is Jesus Christ being crushed. Jesus is the 'offering for sin.It can also be us. We are called to be crushed. We are called to be offerings. It's our suffering that will justify many. It is us who will be able to see the light in fullness in our affliction.
Thank you all for your attendance and participation in the Grandparents Mass. It was heartwarming to see all the families and St Juliana children proudly standing side by side as we honored our children, parents and grandparents. As a community we are strong because of our faith and prayers. Let's pray for our children to grow up happy, healthy and holy members of our Catholic community.
On the fourth Sunday of every month during the 9:30am Mass we offer Sunday School for children age 3-6.We spread the Gospel message to our youngest worshipers in a comprehensive way through age-appropriate stories, discussion, and hands-on activities. There is no cost for our Sunday School program, and all children of preschool to kindergarten age (3-6) are welcome, parishioners and non-parishioners alike.
Every Fridaymorningwhen Saint Juliana School is in session we host a casual gathering for tots (age 0-3) and their caregivers in the Ahearn Activity Center from8:15 to 10am.Tots & Company is free and open to everyone, parishioner or non-parishioner. All you need to do is show up! It's a great time to connect with other moms, dads, grandparents and caregivers to enjoy coffee, donuts and adult conversation while the little ones can have a playgroup of their own as they run (or crawl) around our spacious gym. We also have juice boxes and snacks for the kids.
Girls basketball plays this week on Wednesday and Thursday is another Pack the Gym Night when theSJS teamswill play each other (there are two teams for 5, 6, and 7th grades.
Then, in an exciting new event, there will be at 8pm an 8th grade girls versus Parents/Pastor Team. Feel free to come out to the gym to watch our teams. The Pastor and some parents take on the 8th grade girls.Go easy on them, ladies.

St. Vincent De Paul Home Away From Home
St. Vincent De Paulhosts their annual collection for the Fisher House,A Home Away From Home for Families of our Nations Heroesthe weekend ofOctober 20/21.
Donations will be accepted in the back of the church before and after all Masses. The Fisher House Foundation donates "comfort homes" built on the grounds of major military and VA medical centers, such as Hines VA hospital. These homes enable family members to be close to a loved one at the most stressful times during the hospitalization for an unexpected illness, disease, or injury.
Items needed are toiletries, personal items, TargetJewel gift cards, laundry detergent, fabric softener sheets, liquid dish soap and paper goods (towels, napkins). Monetary donations are also welcomed and will be used for the families of veterans who are being treated at Hines Hospital in Maywood, IL. Please make checks payable to St. Vincent De Paul Society. Please help support our Soldiers and their Families. Your generosity is much appreciated.
Join us everyWednesday from 6:45-7:45 pmat the St Juliana Parish Center Conference Room for a social hour of fellowship and sharing, and/or listening. All first responders and spouses are welcome to attend. As this is an evolving group, the initial few meetings will be focused on hearing the needs of the first responders within the group and formulating a plan to address those needs. No licensed mental health professionals will be on hand; however, should that become a need, we will reach out for additional support in the meetings to follow.
Please Help Feed Our Priests and Seminarians Monday Rectory Meal Rotation. Please help feed our priests on Monday evenings.
