Our warm weather has of course brought thoughts of baseball; did you know Babe Ruth credited his storied (and colorful) career to his roots in Catholic education? Father James shares more in his Tassel of the Cloak in next Sunday's bulletin but if you can't wait for that, it's batter-up right here.
From Letters from a Pastor to his Parishioners:
On January 25th we celebrate ‘The Conversion of Saint Paul the Apostle.’ Perhaps you're familiar with the story of how Paul (the saint FKA Saul) fell off his horse on the road to Damascus? (No? Check out Acts 9:1-22) If discipleship does not come easy for you and if your faith brings you on hard times or makes you unpopular, then St. Paul is your man. Thank you, Paul, for getting up off your horse and following Jesus Christ.
The Boy Scouts are back with their wildly successful sock drive, assisted by the Missionary Spirit Team and St. Vincent DePaul Society. They're accepting brand new socks of all kinds on January 28/29 and February 4/5.
McKenna Family Van
Many of you know parishioners Jack and Cathy McKenna and their triplets, Casey, Connor and Matt. But did you know their very special, very necessary van recently died? You can learn more—and help—at this GoFundMe site.
Sr. Remy Award
Annually a deserving individual is recognized for their outstanding volunteer service, with the Sr. Remy Schaul Service Award. Nominations will close on January 25 so there's still time to recommend your nominee right here.
Our third and sixth grade CCD and SJS students are coordinating the 9:30am liturgy on February 5 and reception immediately following. All are invited to join us—we're just not a family without you!
Céad Mile Fáilte to Our Craic
On Saturday, February 25 the fun and greens return to the Ahearn Activity Center. Corned beef, chicken and sides buffet from 6:30 to 8:00pm; open bar (pop, wine and beer—even the black stuff! who needs green?) all evening. We've the luck to have In Spite of Ourselves be playin' your singin' and dancin' Irish and American favorites, plus performances by Irish step dancers, and the thundering' pipes and drums of the Shannon Rovers and Emerald Society. Tickets now on sale; event proceeds benefit St. Juliana Parish.
With gratitude for the efforts of choir member Jim Gregie, we captured the audio from Father Ahearn's funeral mass and several excerpts have been posted on our website. The beautiful music of our choirs, Andy Lidgus, Bob Ryan, the Shannon Rovers, and Mark Teresi, as well as Father Scott's reverent homily, contributed to a wonderful celebration of the “Good Man” we knew and loved for so many years. Please share with those who were not able to attend or would enjoy an encore.
